MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama track & field had their first outdoor event of the season, hosting the Jaguar Throws/Pole Vault Opener at Jaguar Track on Thursday and Friday.

The men's side finished with 96 points, and the women compiled 107 points in the meet that featured athletes from South Alabama and the University of Mobile.

Brylan Shirley won the men's pole vault, clearing 4.27 meters on his third attempt.
Ina Edstrom took top-spot on the women's side, reaching a height of 3.52 meters.
Savannah Morgan and
Alexis Gratia followed behind her, recording 3.37 meters and 3.07 meters, respectively.

In the shot-put event,
Iyana Johnson won the women's competition, coming in at 12.76 meters. In second place was
Hannah-Mai Vaikla, throwing 12.19 meters.
Phillip Douglas III finished in third on the men's side with his effort of 13.79 meters.

Trevor Hunziker and
Ryan Faut were the top Jaguar performers in the men's discus, finishing in second and third place with efforts of 49.37 meters and 47.79 meters.
Colette Uys and
Bodine Degli-Umberti took first and second place in the women's discus, tossing it 53.24 meters and 50.91 meters.

The two women switched places to take the top two spots in the women's hammer throw. Degli-Umberti reached 57.13 meters, and Uys recorded 57.04 meters.

In the men's hammer,
Francois Prinsloo took first place with his effort of 56.44 meters, while
Dimitrios Manesiotis was right behind him in second with 51.77 meters.

Vaikla was the winner in the women's javelin, throwing it 43.48 meters.
Malloy Norton was behind her in second place, reaching 38.24 meters. On the men's side,
Jacob Wentz finished in second place with a distance of 53.39 meters.
Walker Hughes was closed behind with his distance of 53. 15 meters and finishing third.

"We had some personal bests, which is typically a good sign in the opening meet of the season. Overall, it was a good start to the outdoor season, and we just need to stay focused and keep improving."
