Five seniors are listed among the 2023 South Alabama softball roster, and each Monday throughout the season, one will give fans a view through their eyes as they recap the previous week. On tap this week is outfielder
Mackenzie Brasher.
Hi everyone my name is
Mackenzie Brasher, a senior outfielder from Orange Beach, Ala. I'm going to be taking you through the week of our conference opener against Georgia State.
Tuesday – Friday
Our second season is among us! The moment we have all been waiting for! CONFERENCE OPENING WEEKEND! We were supposed to play Friday, but as we all know it rains every day in Mobile! Instead, we got pushed to a double header on Saturday. This week has mainly been practicing and preparing for what we are going to face this weekend. We had a couple weight session to keep our bodies refreshed and healthy on top of team practices.
Saturday – Game Day
It's Saturday and GAME DAY is here!!! My game day routine has been pretty consistent through the past few years! I enjoy getting to the field early so I can drink a loaded tea and get ready for the game. Today, I had breakfast at Chick Fil A with my parents before heading to the field to start getting ready. That is always one of the perks of playing at home. When I walk into the locker room, we always have music playing to get us pumped up for the game. A pre-game activity I enjoy playing with my teammates is hacky sack to fill the gap of free time before playing. Our 1 p.m. start time has finally come. We started out the series on fire! We run-ruled Georgia State in 6 innings and turned around to beat them again shortly after! We couldn't have asked for a better start to conference play.
Sunday – Game Day
This morning when I woke up it was a little colder than it has been the past few weeks. On Sunday, South Nutrition doesn't open in time for me to get a loaded tea before the game, so I usually drink a red bull. I enjoy my breakfast and head to the field. It is a special day because not only are we playing for the sweep, but it is also
Gabby Stagner's birthday!!! We started out the game a little slow, but we didn't waste any time getting ourselves back into the game. On Gabby's special day she hit a double, a home run and had four RBI. Just as we finished celebrating her home run,
Emma Kropp blasted another home run, putting us ahead 9-5. I am proud of this team for how hard we worked for this sweep. We are going to use this momentum as we go into a long travel week heading to Nicholls and Texas State.
