STATESBORO, Ga. | South Alabama dropped an 11-1 decision to Georgia Southern at J.I. Clements Stadium on Saturday, dropping its Sun Belt Conference series to the Eagles.
Georgia Southern (9-10, 2-0 SBC) jumped on top early with a three-run third inning and scored six of its 11 runs with two outs in the game. Meanwhile, South Alabama (8-11, 0-2 SBC) left the bases loaded in the fifth and sixth innings, leaving 11 on in the contest.
JG Bell led South Alabama at the plate, finishing 3-for-5, picking up half of the six hits by the Jags.
Gehrig Conard (0-4) suffered the loss, working 4.0 innings and allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits with five strikeouts.
How It Happened
- (B2) Jesse Sherrill singled to left to drive in Luke Hatcher with the game's first run, Georgia Southern 1-0.
- (B3) Zane Faulk singled to left center to drive in Noah Ledford to extend the lead before Blake Evans scored on a failed pick off. Luke Hatcher scored on a wild pitch after a strikeout, Georgia Southern 4-0.
- (B4) Hatcher singled through the left side to drive in a pair of runs after a pair of errors in the inning, Georgia Southern 6-0.
- (T5) Colson Lawrence scored on a catcher's interference with Trey Lewis at the plate, Georgia Southern 6-1.
- (B6) Sam Blancato hit a two-run, two-out home run to right to extend the lead, Georgia Southern 8-1.
- (B7) Zane Faulk hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Jarrett Brown, Georgia Southern 9-1.
- (B8) Hatcher singled through the left side that allowed JD Kaiser to score from third on a fielding error in left before Jonathan Jaime recorded an RBI groundout, Georgia Southern 11-1.
