CLEARWATER, Fla. | South Alabama softball gets the 2023 campaign underway this weekend at the NFCA Leadoff Classic held at the Eddie C. Moore Complex as the club will play five games over the three-day event.

This season marks the second time that the program has participated in the event as the Jags opened the 2020 season at the event.

The Jaguars will take on Louisville, who is receiving votes, and Northwestern, who is ranked eighth or higher in all four of the national polls on Friday, while taking on St. John's and Tennessee, also a Top-15 club, on Saturday and Indiana on Sunday.

•    Junior pitcher Olivia Lackie has already been selected to a pair of Top 100 national list this spring, and last week, both her and senior outfielder Mackenzie Brasher were named preseason all-Sun Belt Conference for the second straight spring
•    Lackie finished season with a 15-8 record, while striking out 208 batters and allowing just 45 earned runs and holding opponents to a .168 batting average in 155.2 innings of work a year ago
•    Brasher led the club in batting (.341), runs scored (30), hits (46), stolen bases (20) and multi-hit games (11), and her 20 stolen bases were seventh-most in the SBC
•    Victoria Ortiz led South Alabama in doubles (12), home runs (23), RBI (34), total bases (90), slugging percentage (.750) and one-base percentage (.415) in 2022
•    Five of Gabby Stagner's six home runs, 15 of her 21 hits and 20 of her RBI came in league play a year ago
