NEW ORLEANS, La. – Freshman guard Kelsey Thompson earned Sun Belt Conference post season honors as she was named Freshman of the Year, the league announced Monday.
 
Thompson is the fourth Jag in program history to earn the honor, with the most recent being Savannah Jones in 2018.
 
Thompson led all conference freshmen in points per game with 10.5 and averaged 11.1 points per game in conference play. Thompson led South in the regular season in points per game (10.5), steals per game (1.4) and assists per game (2.3).
 
The Mobile native posted five 20-point games this season, totaling a career-high 27 points against ULM. Thompson recorded double figures in 13 games this season, the most of any Jag.
 
In the final 10 games of the season, Thompson averaged 14.8 points per game and posted seven double figure games and four 20-point games. During that 10 game stretch she averaged 4.8 rebounds per game and 1.1 steals per game.
