MOBILE, Ala. | After opening the 2023 campaign on the road this past weekend, South Alabama returns home this weekend to host the Mardi Gras Classic presented by Beebe's Termite & Pest Control.
The Jags (1-3) will open up tournament play with a pair of games at Jaguar Field on Friday against Missouri State (12:30 pm) and Mississippi Valley State, and then take on Missouri State (3 pm) and Rutgers (5:30 pm) on Saturday, before closing out the event on Sunday with a single game against the Scarlet Knights with first pitch of that contest scheduled for 11:30 am.
South Alabama enters the weekend after opening the 2023 campaign over the weekend at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla. The Jags fell to Louisville in extra innings, while also falling to Northwestern and Indiana, but did defeat St. John's on Saturday.
The home tournament is the first of two this spring for the Jaguars and begins a stretch in which South will play 10 of its next 11 games at Jaguar Field.

Meredith Keel got off to a solid start over the weekend as she led the Jags offensively with a .417 batting average and reached base safely in all four of South's four contests
• The Ashville, Ohio, native collected five hits, a pair of walks and was hit by a pitch, while also recording 13 assists defensively at the hot corner
• Dating back to the end of last season,
Mackenzie Brasher - who is batting .357 and reached base safely seven times and scored four runs at the NFCA Leadoff Classic - enters the weekend tournament having had a hit in six-straight games

Jenna Hardy (1-1) appeared in the circle in all four games over the weekend, starting three, and struck out 15 in her 17.2 innings of work, and for her play, she was selected to the all-tournament team
• South Alabama holds a 12-4 mark all-time in its 16 home openers, and in those contests, USA has scored a total of 89 runs (5.6 per game), while allowing 40 (2.5 per game) runs to the opposition for a +49-run differential
• Since the inception of the program, South has hosted numerous regular-season tournaments and over the course of those 79 games, the Jaguars hold a combined record of 52-27
