Quotable from coach Nick Brochu
"I always tell my guys in order to win you need to put yourself in a position to win, and I thought we did just that, the only problem is that we couldn't finish. We started a race, we got ahead and it looked like we could win and pull off a big upset, and then we ran out of juice and couldn't finish. It's very frustrating, but at the same time, you have to be proud that you put up an extremely good fight against a team that is top 15 in the nation. We played some very aggressive doubles because we weren't going to beat a top 15 team by playing safe. We took some smart risks and it really paid off and we won the doubles point.
We played some great, competitive tennis. We won the doubles point, won the first set on four, five and six and even at number two we were up and the match was going in our way. I don't wanna give any excuses but
Louis Delcour played his heart out, but it was his first match this spring and he just didn't have the endurance. If Louis is in shape, he wins that match. At number six, we were serving for the match so we were in a position to win, but I think we showed some immaturity and started panicking because his opponent raised his game. I think Javier got too mad and started panicking and felt like he needed to do too much and we threw it away. That was a huge turnover. Martin had to dig extremely deep after being sick all week, he had no endurance. He ran out of gas after the first set and was unable to keep up with the rally in the second set, but he played some good tennis and closed the match like a champ, really big win for Martin.
Very happy with the way we competed, very proud with how close we came to beating them, but it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth because we were right there, but it didn't happen. We've gotta use this and carry this level of play through the rest of the reason."
