Jags Complete Fall Season at BCC Invite

10/29/2023 9:02:00 PM

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Alabama men's tennis completed its fall schedule Sunday afternoon at the BCC Invite, hosted by Samford in Birmingham.

"Not a bad tournament, but I was expecting better results," said head coach Nick Brochu. "We've had some good days and bad days. Some guys were really up and down from one match to the next, and that's something we need to work on for the spring, we need to be a little bit more consistent. It's sometimes a mental challenge because it has been a long fall, and you've got to push through it. We had some guys finishing with a lot of wins at the end, so overall it was good."

DAY ONE

The first day of the tournament was just singles play, and Theo Mottier and Braden Hannig led the Jaguars with the lone opening-round victories. Mottier defeated his opponent from Southern Miss in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to get South on the board, and then Hannig followed with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over his adversary from Charleston. After opening round losses, Javier Montoya and Juan Accossatto each found their way into the win column later in the day with wins over North Alabama and Samford.

DAY TWO

The singles tournament continued on Saturday and Montoya got the Jags started with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 win over his North Alabama opponent. Accossatto joined him with a win over a Georgia State foe. Theo Mottier was the third singles victory on the day for USA with a 2-6, 7-6 (3), 10-5 win over Alabama State.

Doubles play also opened on Saturday and Hannig and Accossatto got off to a hot start win a 6-4 win over a North Alabama pairing.

DAY THREE

Montoya capped off a strong singles showing Sunday morning by picking up a 6-4, 6-4 win over his Jacksonville State opponent. Accossatto did the same in a different fashion as his opponent from Louisiana retired in the first set with Accossatto leading, 5-1.

Hannig and Accossatto finished doubles play strong by winning 6-3 over a Southern Miss pairing, as did Montoya and Mottier who defeated their Jacksonville State adversaries 6-2.
