South Alabama track & field opens indoor season at UAB Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The South Alabama track and field teams notched 25 top-five finishes at the UAB Invitational indoor meet Friday afternoon at the Birmingham CrossPlex, including 15 in field events.
 
The Jaguars took first, second and fourth place in the men's shot put. Sebastian Loschner won his first event of the season with his throw of 16.48 meters. Francois Prinsloo followed in second place with 15.23 meters, and Dimitrios Manesiotis finished in fourth place with a throw of 14.71 meters.
 
Prinsloo earned a second top-five finish in the men's weight throw, reaching a distance of 17.87 meters and finishing second.
 
Colette Uys took first place in the women's shot put with her throw of 15.42 meters, tying the second-longest throw in school history. Bodine Degli-Umberti finished fourth with a distance of 14.03 meters. In her first collegiate match, Iyana Johnson finished in sixth place, throwing 13.31 meters.
 
Johnson also finished first in the women's triple jump, reaching a distance of 12.19 meters. Uys finished second in the women's weight throw with a distance of 17.73 meters, which is the fifth-longest in school history.
 
Adele Magaud finished in first place in the mile run with a time of 4:57.39, and Tyler Doty finished in third in the men's mile in 4:28.70, just ahead of Lance Cunigan (4:28.85).
 
Dorian Curry finished in third in the men's high jump with a height of 1.96 meters. Kiara Risher's height of 1.71 meters in the women's high jump gave her a first-place finish and also ties her previous effort for sixth-place in school history.
 
Evans Finnorn and Graham Collins each reached heights of 4.65 meters in the pole vault competition, coming in second and third place.
 
Kirami Yego and Teagan Flanagan took first and second place in the men's 3,000 meters, respectively. Yego finished in 8:14.41, and Flanagan followed close behind with a time of 8:17.16. Giacomo DeLuca finished in fourth place with a time of 8:44.39.

Head Coach Paul Brueske:
"We had some good things happen in the first meet of the season, but there's definitely some things we still need to tighten up. Overall, it was a good start."
