MOBILE, Ala. – Former South Alabama men's basketball standout
Kayo Goncalves has signed a professional contract to play overseas for BK Iskra Svit of the Slovenská Basketbalová Liga (Slovak Basketball League - SBL).
During his Jaguar career, Goncalves played in 61 games and started 52 during his two seasons as a member of the South Alabama program. The Rio de Janeiro, Brazil native averaged 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds during that span.
He ended the 2021-22 season with 72 made three-pointers, which ranked third in the Sun Belt, a year after knocking down 81 triples during the 2020-21 season, which also ranked third-most in the conference. The 6-foot-8 graduate senior finished his Jag career with 153 three-pointers and is tied for seventh in program history with Carlos Smith.
The forward eclipsed the 1,000-point mark this past season and over 75 percent of his scoring came from behind the arc.
Goncalves was also named CoSIDA first-team academic all-district for the 2020-21 season.
