MOBILE – South Alabama head women's basketball coach
Terry Fowler announced the addition of Ka'Vonne Towns to the Jaguar staff this week.
"I am excited to have Ka'Vonne join our staff," Fowler said. "She's full of energy, connects well with people, and has a bright future in coaching. Ka'Vonne enjoyed a great career as a player on four consecutive SoCon regular season and tournament championship teams, including four NCAA appearances at Chattanooga.
"She knows what winning looks like and what it takes on a daily basis to play at a championship level. She played for, and worked with, future and current Hall of Fame coaches in Wes Moore (current head coach at N.C. State/former head coach at Chattanooga) and Jim Foster (former head coach at Chattanooga)."
Towns heads south from UAH where she served as an assistant coach last season under Andrea Lemmond. Prior to that, she served three years as the Director of Operations on the women's basketball staff at Chattanooga after serving as the Director of Student-Athlete Development in 2017.
"I am super excited about this opportunity coach Fowler has presented me," Towns said. "I am blessed to work with such a great staff and a group of young women. I am excited to be here and I'm ready to get to work."
She was a 2015 Southern Conference all-tournament selection during her playing days, while helping the Mocs to four straight SoCon regular season and tournament titles and four appearances in the NCAA Tournament. She was moved to point guard by coach Foster during her senior season where she started 31 of 33 games. Towns ranks 10th all-time in UTC history for games played (125) over four years and closed out her career with 682 points, scoring 291 during her senior season, and had 340 career rebounds. She also dished out 177 assists, with 77 of those during her senior season, and had 162 steals.
