Coastal Carolina owns an 11-9 all-time lead over South Aabama in a series that dates back to 2005. The Jags have won three straight over the Chanticleers after taking the final two games of the three-game series at Stanky Field last season and a 14-7 win to open the 2021 Sun Belt Conference championship in Montgomery, Ala. CCU took two of three games from USA in 2018 in Conway, S.C., which marked the last matchup between the schools at Springs Brooks Stadium. South Alabama is 6-9 all-time against Coastal Carolina under head coach Mark Calvi.
STOKES CLIMBING CAREER RECORDS LIST
First baseman Hunter Stokes ranks third in career games played (230) at South Alabama, and needs to appear in four games to pass Brett Parker (233) for the most games played in program history. Stokes currently ranks tied for second with Tyrone Dixon in games played entering the series. He ranks fifth in career at-bats (762) after passing Mike Mordecai (733) last weekend, and needs 16 ABs to pass Josh Touchstone (777) for fourth all time. Stokes also ranks tied for sixth in career walks (128) with Dixon entering the weekend and needs four to pass Wells Davis (131) for fifth all-time.
HIT STREAKS, ON-BASE STREAKS
Diego Altamirano enters the series with a team-best 29-game on-base streak, and Cameron Tissue has reached safely in eight straight games. Miles Simington carries a team-best seven-game hit streak into Thursday's series opener.
SIMINGTON IN NATIONAL, SBC RANKINGS
Right fielder Miles Simington ranks 12th nationally in hits per game (1.62), which leads the Sun Belt Conference, and 22nd in hits (78), which ranks second in the league. Simington ranks second in the SBC in batting average (.390) and hits (78), tied for fourth in RBIs (52), fifth in total bases (120) and on-base percentage (.460), tied for seventh in doubles (15) and triples (3), ninth in OPS (1.060) and tied for ninth in slugging percentage (.600).
TISSUE AMONG NATIONAL LEADERSÂ
Third baseman Cameron Tissue leads the nation in sacrifice bunts per game (0.36), and ranks third in the nation in sacrifice bunts (15), which ranks second in the SBC. Pat Murphy (1992) owns the single-season record at USA for sacrifice bunts with 18.
BOSWELL LEADING SBC
Right-hander Matt Boswell leads the Sun Belt Conference in strikeouts (86), third in innings pitched (75.2), tied for third in wins (6), tied for seventh in fewest walks allowed (16) and ninth in opposing batting average (.232). Boswell has recorded six quality starts this season, including two of his last three dating back to an April 22 start against Georgia Southern, and has tallied eight or more strikeouts in six of 13 starts on the year.
ORBETA IN SBC RANKINGS
Second baseman Erick Orbeta ranks third in the SBC in walks (36) entering the weekend. He also ranks tied for 10th in the league in runs scored (44).
ALTAMIRANO SECOND IN OBP
Catcher Diego Altamirano ranks tied for second in the Sun Belt Conference in on-base percentage (.481) entering the series. Altamirano has reached base safely in 29 straight games.
182 AND COUNTING
Shortstop Santi Montiel has started 182 consecutive games - every game since he joined the program in 2019 - with his 150th coming in the series finale with UT Arlington on March 20.
RUNNERS IN SCORING POSITION
South Alabama is batting .303 (180-for-621) with runners in scoring position this season. Miles Simington leads the team with a .391 batting average (25-for-64), and Will Turner ranks second with a .364 average (20-for-55).
LAST 6 OUTS
The Jaguars are 26-1 when leading after seven innings this season, but are 0-14 when trailing after seven frames and 3-5 when the score is tied through seven. USA suffered its first loss of the season when leading after seven innings in a 6-4 loss to No. 5 Southern Miss on May 3 at Stanky Field after allowing three runs in the top of the ninth inning.

South Alabama is 24-7 when scoring six or more runs this season, but 6-13 when scoring five or fewer.Â
OUTHITTING THE OPPOSITION
South Alabama is 27-3 when outhitting opponents this season, but is 2-14 when being out-hit and 1-3 when hits are tied. The Jags tied their season high in hits (16) in their series finale with Arkansas State on May 8, matching their previous highs against Alabama State (April 5) and Texas State (May 1).
