MOBILE, Ala. – Former University of South Alabama men's basketball standout Trhae Mitchell and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers won the G-League Championship on Thursday night. The Vipers clinched the championship with a 131-114 win over the Delaware Blue Coats. Rio Grande Valley took game one 145-128.
Mitchell scored seven points, grabbed six rebounds and added two assists and a block in game one. In the closeout game, the former Jag finished with two points, four rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
The guard appeared in 28 games this season for the Vipers, averaging 9.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks while shooting over 50 percent from the floor.
Mitchell earned third-team all-Sun Belt in 2018-19 and 2019-20. Mitchell recorded 1,127 points, 704 rebounds, 310 assists, 185 blocks and 110 steals in 125 appearances for the Jags in his four years with the program. The guard is third in school history with 185 blocks in his career and sixth in the record books with 704 rebounds. The former Jag is also the only player in program history to lead the team in rebounds, assists, steals and blocks in the same season, and second to have 200 rebounds and 100 assists in one year.
