PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – Sébastien Collard has been named the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year and Jack Clements was voted as the Newcomer of the Year to highlight the annual SBC Men's Tennis Awards and All-Conference Teams announced Wednesday. The honors were voted upon by the league's seven men's tennis head coaches
. Collard and Louis Delcour were named to the first team in singles, while Clements and freshman Maxime St-Hilaire were tabbed second team. In doubles, all four received first-team honors.
Collard, a junior from Gatineau, Quebec, finished the regular season with a 22-8 record in singles action. The junior went 12-6 in dual-match play, including a 3-1 record in Sun Belt competition. Among his singles highlights, Collard beat Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez of Louisiana in straight sets as the Jaguars defeated the previously unbeaten Ragin' Cajuns on April 2. In doubles, he was a perfect 5-0 against Sun Belt opponents and has won nine of his past 11 matches overall. Collard was named Sun Belt Player of the Week on March 30 after a pair of wins against Coastal Carolina and New Orleans.
Collard is the first Jag to win the Sun Belt Player of the Year award since Tuki Jacobs received the honor in 2017.
Jack Clements took home the Sun Belt's Newcomer of the Year accolade. Clements posted a 19-10 record in doubles play this season, including a 4-1 mark in Sun Belt action, while playing at the No. 1 position. In singles, Clements wrapped up the regular season 16-7 and 11-5 in dual match play. The junior from Inverloch, Australia, went 5-3 at the No. 2 spot and has won three out of the past four matches in singles. In a match at Auburn, Clements outlasted No. 84 Jan Galka in three sets to earn a ranked victory.
Delcour joined Collard on the all-Sun Belt first team in singles. Delcour ended the regular season with a team-high four wins in conference play in singles action and also led the team with 24 wins overall in singles this season. In doubles, the senior went 4-1 against Sun Belt competition, including three straight victories playing at the No. 1 position and 19-11 overall in doubles. The Lille, France native has won five straight matches and six out of the last seven in singles. Delcour had a 14-4 record in singles and a 13-6 record in doubles this spring.
St-Hilaire posted a strong freshman season for the Jaguars. St-Hilaire went 21-8 in singles and 20-9 in doubles this season. The Levis, Canada native was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week on February 23, posting a 4-0 record, including victories over LSU's Joao Graca in singles and a 6-3 win over LSU's Boris Kozlov and Kent Hunter in doubles. The week before, the freshman took down Raul Dobai of Auburn in straight sets. While playing at the No. 2 spot in doubles, St-Hilaire finished the spring 12-4 and a perfect 5-0 in Sun Belt play.
Collard and St-Hilaire ended the regular season tied for a team-high 15 wins playing together in doubles and went undefeated in Sun Belt action playing at the No. 2 position. Delcour and Clements also posted 15 wins, including an 11-6 mark at the top position in doubles.
