South Alabama owns a 67-37 all-time lead over Southern Miss in a series that dates back to 1967. The Jags carry a five-game series win streak into Tuesday's contest after winning all three matchups last season, along with two in 2019. USM's last win over USA came in a 5-3 win in Hattiesburg in 2018. South Alabama is 14-8 all-time against Southern Miss under head coach Mark Calvi.

SBC PRESEASON PITCHER OF THE YEAR
Jaguar right-hander Miles Smith was named the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Preseason Pitcher of the Year, as well as preseason all-SBC and a preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball. 

135 AND COUNTING
Shortstop Santi Montiel has started 135 consecutive games - every game since he joined the program in 2019. 

MONTIEL NAMED TO BOBBY BRAGAN COLLEGIATE SLUGGER AWARD WATCH LIST
Montiel was recently named to the 2022 Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award watch list. The award, created by the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation, is based on performance at the plate, academics and personal integrity. The winner of the BBCSA will be announced in June and honored at a gala in the fall at the Fort Worth Club.

JAGS PICKED TO WIN SUN BELT CONFERENCE
The Jaguars were picked to win the Sun Belt Conference regular season title in a preseason poll voted on by the league's head coaches. USA received seven of 12 first-place votes in the poll.

RETURNING ALL-SBC, FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICA PERFORMERS
South Alabama right-handers JoJo Booker and Jeremy Lee return for 2022 after earning all-Sun Belt Conference honors last season. Lee was also a 2021 Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball. 

EARLY HIT STREAKS
Designated hitter Charles Middleton and right fielder Miles Simington each carry a three-game hit streak into Tuesday's contest after hitting safely in each game of the South Alabama Invitational last weekend. Simington recorded two multi-hit games in three contests, and Middleton finished with one multi-hit game.

STOKES RECORDS CAREER HIGH IN HITS
First baseman Hunter Stokes recorded a career-high four hits in Sunday's loss to Tennessee Tech, finishing 4-for-5 with a double and one run scored.

RUNNERS STRANDED
South Alabama left a combined 31 runners on base in three games last weekend, including a season-high 12 left on base in a 3-1 loss to Oral Roberts last Saturday.
