South Alabama Cross Country to send 5 to NCAA South Regional this weekend

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Members of the South Alabama men's and women's cross country teams will compete Friday at the NCAA South Regional held at the John Hunt Cross Country Course and hosted by the University of North Alabama with assistance from the Huntsville Sports Commission and the City of Huntsville.

The women's 6k is set to get underway at 8:30 a.m., while the men's 10k will follow at 9:30 a.m.

Pre-Race Notes
•    This marks the second-straight NCAA South Regional held at the John Hunt Cross Country Course
•    The top two teams from each region will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships, while there will also be 13 at-large bids from around the nation.  In addition to the teams advancing, the top four finishers from each regional not on one of the advancing teams will also earn a berth at the championship meet as long as they finish with in the top 25 of the region.  Two additional athletes will be selected from the remainder of the national pool (and must have finished in the regional top 25) as at-large individuals.
•    Magaud posted her 12th career top-75 finish and set a new personal best in the 6k with a time of 21:30.54 at last fall's regional championship event
•    Yego enters the meet after capturing his second-straight Sun Belt Conference championship two weeks ago, while Flanagan (first team) and Magaud (second team) also earned all-conference accolades
•    Yego posted a time of 29:42.89 in the 10k to place eighth at the regional, which earned him an at-large selection one week later to the NCAA Championship
•    Yego's time was the sixth-fastest time in the distance in program history, eclipsing David Kimani's time of 30:06 set at the NCAA Championships (11/22/99) in Bloomington, Ind.
•    The regional appearance is the first for Chagot and Livingston, while Magaud, Flanagan and Yego will make their second
