Jag XC's Yego and Flanagan Finish Top 7; Magaud places Top-15 at the Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. | South Alabama cross country runner Kirami Yego (23:25.4) finished second for the second time this season, while Teagan Flanagan (23:57.3) finished seventh in the men's 8k, and Adele Magaud placed 13th in the women's 6k to pace the Jaguars at the Crimson Classic held at the Harry Pritchett Running Course Friday morning.

The men's team placed in the top-10 for the fourth time this season, finishing sixth. Along with Yego and Flanagan, Amos Pkemoi finished in the top-30 in the 8k race with his time of 24:48.9. Magaud finished in the top 20 for the fourth time this season with a time of 20:47.9, a new personal best in the 6k and a top five time in school history.

Alabama took first place in both the men's and women's races. Victor Kiprop of Alabama placed first in the men's 8k with a time of 23:16.9. He was followed by Yego, and Ahmed Muhumed, running unattached, finished third (23:30.3). On the women's side, Alabama took the top three finishes. Amaris Tyynismaa took the top spot with a time of 19:39.8. Hilda Olemomoi and Mercy Chelangat finished quickly behind their teammate with times of 19:40.0 and 19:42.1, respectively.

Head Coach Parker Cowles
- On the performance of the men's team:
"I think the men's team had probably the best performance of the season to date. Obviously, I think Kirami runs very well with some high-level guys. I think Teagan had one of his better performances as well. Having Giacomo back in the lineup was a huge boost to the team. Right now, we need to work on just being a little more consistent and then tightening up that pack time as we get ready for the Sun Belt Championship. I think we can be a very good team, but we still have a little more to work on as we get to the end of the season."

- On the performance of the women's team:
"On the ladies' side, I was very happy with how Adele and Clervie raced today. We've got to continue to get our depth stronger and get athletes healthy. We've had sickness and some weird circumstances, but we need to get everyone on the same page as we get to the championship portion of the season. I'm excited to see what we will be in two weeks and moving forward."
