 All-Time Series
South Alabama is 12-4 all-time against Appalachian State in a series that dates back to 1973. The Jaguars have won nine straight in the series after three consecutive three-game series sweeps from 2017-19. USA has won four of the five series against App State since the Mountaineers joined the league beginning with the 2015 season. App State's lone series win came in 2016 in Boone, N.C. South Alabama is 12-3 all-time against App State under head coach Mark Calvi. 

JAGS IN ROAD SBC GAMES
South Alabama enters its last Sun Belt Conference road series of the year batting .215 with 13 doubles, one triple, six home runs, 45 RBIs, 47 runs scored and seven stolen bases in nine league road games. The Jaguar pitching staff is 3-6 with two saves and a 6.30 ERA in nine road conference contests, with 75 strikeouts and 29 walks in 75 2/3 innings pitched while opponents are batting .277. Michael Sandle is batting .351 with two doubles, four home runs, 15 RBIs, 11 runs scored, two stolen bases, .730 slugging percentage and .429 on-base percentage in nine SBC road games this year, while Santi Montiel and Ethan Wilson are each hitting .344 in league road contests. 

STOKES CAREER VERSUS APP STATE
In five career games against Appalachian State, Hunter Stokes has batted .368 (7-for-19) with one double, two triples, four RBIs, five runs scored and a .632 slugging percentage. Stokes recorded four hits in two games against the Mountaineers as a freshman in 2017, and tallied three hits in three games against App State in 2018. 

SANDLE DURING ON-BASE STREAK
Center fielder Michael Sandle carries a career-best 15-game on-base streak into Friday's series opener. During his 15-game streak, which dates back to game two of the Louisiana series on April 19, Sandle is batting .354 with two doubles, four home runs, 19 RBIs, 14 runs scored, four stolen bases and .386 on-base percentage. He has hit safely in 14 of 15 contests, with the series finale at Texas State on May 9 as the lone hitless game in that stretch, and recorded eight multiple-hit games during his streak.

JAGS IN TOP 10 NATIONALLY IN SACRIFICE BUNTS
South Alabama enters the weekend ranked sixth nationally and second in the Sun Belt in sacrifice bunts with 42. Kaleb DeLaTorre ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference and ranks sixth in the nation with 10 sacrifice bunts.

JAGUAR PITCHING STAFF IN NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Jaguar pitching staff ranks 14th nationally in WHIP (1.24), which leads the Sun Belt Conference, and 22nds nationally in hits allowed per nine innings (7.68) which is second in the SBC.

LEHRMANN IN SBC RANKINGS
Left-hander Tyler Lehrmann ranks tied for fourth in the Sun Belt in fewest hits allowed (40) and fifth in opposing batting average (.215) entering the weekend. 

JAGS WHEN OUTHITTING THE OPPOSITION
South Alabama is 16-1 when outhitting the opposition this season, 6-12 when getting outhit and 6-5 when hits are tied. The Jaguars suffered their first loss of the season when outhitting the opponent in the series opener at Texas State on May 7. 

JAG DEFENSE LEADS SBC
South Alabama leads the Sun Belt Conference in fielding percentage (.977) entering the weekend. The Jags committed two errors in last weekend's three-game series at Georgia Southern, with one in game one and one in game two of the series.

SMITH IN SBC CATEGORIES
Right-hander Miles Smith enters the weekend as the Sun Belt Conference leader in ERA (1.91), home runs allowed (1) and earned runs allowed (12). Smith ranks second in the league in runs allowed (16), tied for fifth in opposing batting average (.215), seventh in walks allowed (16) and eighth in hits allowed (45). 

ALLOWING FIVE OR LESS
South Alabama is 27-5 this season when allowing five runs or less, but is 1-13 when opponents score six or more. 

CALVI ECLIPSES 300 CAREER WINS
Jaguar head coach Mark Calvi earned his 300th career win in game two of the Georgia State series on April 25 at Stanky Field. Calvi enters the weekend with 305 career wins, all of which have come at South Alabama. 

WILSON NAMED TO GOLDEN SPIKES AWARD WATCH LIST
Ethan Wilson was selected to the 2021 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List, marking the second straight season he has been named to the list. 

WILSON NAMED PRESEASON SBC PLAYER OF THE YEAR, ALL-AMERICA
Ethan Wilson was named the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Preseason Player of the Year, marking the second straight season he was voted the league's top player in preseason voting. Wilson was also named Baseball America First-Team Preseason All-America, and Third-Team Preseason All-America by D1Baseball.
