All-Time Series
South Alabama owns a 25-5 all-time lead over Georgia State in a series that dates back to 1979. The 2020 season was canceled due to Covid-19 as the Jaguars were en route to Atlanta last season to open SBC play against the Panthers. USA has won four straight games in the series, dating back to 2018, after sweeping the three-game series at Stanky Field in 2019. The last GSU series win came in 2014 in Atlanta when the Panthers took two of three games from the Jags. South Alabama is 14-4 all-time against Georgia State under head coach Mark Calvi.
CALVI APPROACHING 300 WINS
Jaguar head coach Mark Calvi enters the weekend just two wins shy of 300 for his career, all of which have come at South Alabama. Calvi enters Friday's series opener with a 298-224 career record at USA.
JAGS IN TOP 3 NATIONALLY IN SACRIFICE BUNTS
South Alabama enters the weekend ranked fourth nationally and second in the Sun Belt in sacrifice bunts with 32. Kaleb DeLaTorre leads the Sun Belt Conference and ranks eighth in the nation with seven sacrifice bunts.
JAGUAR PITCHING STAFF IN NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Jaguar pitching staff leads the Sun Belt Conference and ranks 11th nationally in hits allowed per nine innings (7.11). Jaguar opponents have recorded 10 or more hits in just one of the last 19 games, which dates back to March 16 against Southern Miss. Little Rock posted 11 hits in the April 11 series finale in Little Rock, Ark. USA also leads the Sun Belt in WHIP (1.18), which ranks 12th nationally.
JAG DEFENSE IN SBC CONTESTS
The Jaguar defense leads the Sun Belt Conference with a .993 fielding percentage in league contests. USA has committed just three errors in 12 conference games entering this weekend's series.
ON-BASE STREAKS AT STANKY FIELD
Hunter Stokes and Cameron Tissue each enters the weekend with a 10-game on-base streak in home games, followed by Kaleb DeLaTorre and Reid Powers at seven games each.
JAG PITCHING IN SUN BELT GAMES
The Jaguar pitching staff leads the SBC in ERA (3.18), opposing batting average (.186), saves (6), runs allowed (38) and earned runs allowed (37), ranks second in fewest hits allowed (6) and third in strikeouts (120) in Sun Belt contests entering this weekend's series.
TWO-OUT RBIs
South Alabama has recorded 63 two-out RBIs this season, which accounts for 41 percent of its 154 total RBIs. Santi Montiel leads the team with 12 two-out RBIs, followed by Hunter Stokes with 10.
LEE IN SBC RANKINGS
Right-hander Jeremy Lee ranks second in the Sun Belt in strikeouts (64) entering this weekend's start. Lee has struck out 10 or more batters in half of his appearances this season, including 10 strikeouts in seven innings in last weekend's win over Louisiana.
JAGS WHEN OUTHITTING THE OPPOSITION
South Alabama is 13-0 when outhitting the opposition this season, 4-9 when getting outhit and 4-4 when hits are tied.
BOOKER IN SBC RANKINGS
Right-hander JoJo Booker leads the Sun Belt Conference in opposing batting average (.130) and fewest hits allowed (9) in league contests, and ranks fourth in runs allowed (6) and sixth in ERA (2.14) against SBC opponents entering the weekend.
ALLOWING FIVE OR LESS
South Alabama is 20-4 this season when allowing five runs or less, but is 1-9 when opponents score six or more.
SMITH, PEREZ AT NIGHT
Jaguar right-hander Miles Smith is 1-0 with two saves and a 0.00 ERA in six appearances, including one start, in night games this season. Smith has recorded 13 strikeouts against five walks and combined for three shutouts in 18.0 innings pitched at night. Right-hander Tyler Perez has posted a 2.00 ERA in four appearances in night games, and struck out 10 batters without issuing a walk in nine total innings in those contests.
RUNS ALLOWED OVER FINAL THREE INNINGS
South Alabama has allowed 59 total runs in the final three innings, excluding extra-inning contests of games this season, while allowing 84 total runs in the first six innings of games. USA has allowed four runs in extra innings this season, and is 2-2 in extra-inning contests.
WILSON IN NIGHT GAMES
Ethan Wilson is batting a team-best .358 with four doubles, two triples, one home run, 14 RBIs, seven runs scored, three stolen bases and a .469 on-base percentage in 14 night games this season. He has hit safely in five consecutive night games entering Friday's series opener.

Ethan Wilson was selected to the 2021 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List, marking the second straight season he has been named to the list.
WILSON NAMED PRESEASON SBC PLAYER OF THE YEAR, ALL-AMERICA
Ethan Wilson was named the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Preseason Player of the Year, marking the second straight season he was voted the league's top player in preseason voting. Wilson was also named Baseball America First-Team Preseason All-America, and Third-Team Preseason All-America by D1Baseball.
