INDIANAPOLIS – The University of South Alabama women's soccer drew Colorado Monday afternoon after receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament as Sun Belt Champions.
The match is set to take place on April 27 at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C., with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. The first four rounds of matches will be broadcast on NCAA.com with ticket information to be made available at ncaa.com/tickets in the coming days.
The Jags (13-8-1, 8-2) put together a four-game win streak this year, coupled with a six-game unbeaten run to win the Sun Belt Tournament. USA outscored Sun Belt opponents 22-9 en route to its seventh time winning the conference's automatic bid in the last eight years.
Colorado (9-5-2, 5-4-2 PAC 12) is making its 12th trip to the NCAA tournament. This year, the Buffs have played all their games this Spring, opening the season with a 1-0 overtime win against former Sun Belt member Denver. CU played three out-of-conference teams with a pair of games against Pac-12 opponents – Washington and Utah, respectively – not counting to the conference record. The Buffs and Jags have never played.
For those interested in traveling to the tournament, the NCAA and state of North Carolina has publicized each of their COVID protocols. During the tournament, the NCAA announced on April 9 that the venues will be filled to 25 percent capacity following advice from the NCAA Medical Advisory Group guidelines. In North Carolina, face coverings are required in all indoor public settings until April 30 and capacity limits for restaurants will be set to 75 percent. The full list of restrictions can be found at NCAA.com and NC.gov/covid-19/staying-ahead-curve.
THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Richard Moodie
-
On the immediate reaction: "We're just excited to see somebody besides Florida, Florida State or Auburn. I didn't know if we would get to the point where we have a national tournament, so that speaks volumes to the efforts of people across the country trying to get us back to the norm."
-
On the impact of the program: "I'd be lying if I said it's not the goal of the program; we want to compete at the top level and here we are. It's always an honor and you don't take these for granted. It's always good to get into the national tournament but we hope we can do something and compete against the nation's best. It's exciting to travel to Greensboro, N.C., to represent the university and the Sun Belt again. It's always a privilege to play in the tournament and we're just grateful."

On the immediate reaction: "I am more excited because it's not teams we've played in the past, it's something new. We can spend more time to become better prepared, but I am a little nervous. I think we're all a little nervous. They have beat and tied a lot of good teams."
