 All-Time Series
South Alabama owns a 20-5 all-time record over Jacksonville State in a series that dates back to 1996. USA carries a three-game series win streak, dating back to 2017, into Friday's series opener. The Jaguars swept a pair of games from the Gamecocks in 2016 at Stanky Field in the last meeting between the schools. USA is 5-1 all-time against JSU under head coach Mark Calvi.

CALVI COACHES 500TH CAREER GAME
Tuesday's contest at No. 23 Alabama marked Jaguar head coach Mark Calvi's 500th career game, all of which have come at South Alabama. Calvi enters the weekend with a 283-217 (.566) career record, and is 8-1 career against Jacksonville State.

JAGS LEAD NATION IN SACRIFICE BUNTS
South Alabama enters the weekend as the nation's leader in sacrifice bunts with 15. Santi Montiel and Reid Powers are tied for the Sun Belt Conference lead with three, which is tied for 10th nationally. 

JAGUAR PITCHING STAFF IN SBC RANKINGS
The Jaguar pitching staff enters the weekend as the Sun Belt Conference leader in ERA (3.02). USA has allowed 13 earned runs over its last 46 1/3 innings pitched, which spans its last five games dating back to March 3 at New Orleans. The Jags also lead the league in fewest home runs allowed (5), and rank third in strikeouts (122) and fewest hits allowed (41). 

LEE LEADS SUN BELT IN TWO CATEGORIES
Jaguar right-hander Jeremy Lee leads the Sun Belt Conference in ERA (0.00) and earned runs allowed (0), and ranks fourth in opposing batting average (.148) entering his start in Friday's series opener.

JAGUAR PITCHING STAFF STRIKEOUTS
The Jaguar pitching staff has recorded 10 or more strikeouts in five consecutive games, and posted 10 or more in nine of 12 contests this season with its season high of 14 strikeouts coming in last weekend's series-opening win over Middle Tennessee.

BALGAARD LEADS LEAGUE IN TWO OFFENSIVE CATEGORIES
Caleb Balgaard leads the Sun Belt Conference in doubles (5) and total bases (30) entering the weekend series. He ranks tied for third in the league in home runs (3), and sixth in slugging percentage (.612). 

LEHRMANN IN SUN BELT RANKINGS
Jaguar left-hander Tyler Lehrmann enters the weekend ranked second in the SBC in opposing batting average (.140), and seventh in the league in ERA (1.59).

TWO-OUT RBIs
South Alabama has recorded 21 two-out RBIs this season, which accounts for 43 percent of its 49 total RBIs. Hunter Stokes leads the team with eight RBIs with two outs, followed by Kaleb DeLaTorre, Reid Powers and Michael Sandle with three apiece. 

JAG PITCHING LAST 5 GAMES
In its last five games, the Jaguar pitching staff has recorded 57 strikeouts against 13 walks and limited the opposition to a .211 batting average in a span of 46 1/3 innings.

JAGS COLLECT SEASON HIGH IN HITS AT NO. 23 ALABAMA
South Alabama recorded a season-high 13 hits in Tuesday's loss at No. 23 Alabama, led by first baseman Kaleb DeLaTorre who hit two home runs and tied career highs in hits (3) and RBIs (4). DeLaTorre became the first Jaguar to hit multiple home runs in a game since Ethan Wilson on March 6, 2020, at No. 6 Arkansas.

JAGUAR DEFENSIVE WOES
South Alabama has committed at least one error in four straight games entering Friday's series opener, and has been charged with at least one error in 10 of its 12 games this season. The Jags have committed multiple errors in eight games this year, including a season-high five in the series finale at Oral Roberts on Feb. 27.

86 AND COUNTING
Shortsop Santi Montiel has started in 86 consecutive games - every game since joining the program. He started all 56 games in 2019, in addition to all 18 games last season, and has started each game this year. 

POWERS NAMED TO BUSTER POSEY AWARD WATCH LIST
Jaguar catcher Reid Powers was named to the 2021 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watch List on March 9. The award is given annually to the nation's top Division I catcher by The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission. Semifinalists will be announced May 20, and finalists on June 7 with the winner to be named on a date that has not yet been determined.

WILSON NAMED PRESEASON SBC PLAYER OF THE YEAR, ALL-AMERICA
Ethan Wilson was named the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Preseason Player of the Year, marking the second straight season he was voted the league's top player in preseason voting. Wilson was also named Baseball America First-Team Preseason All-America, and Third-Team Preseason All-America by D1Baseball.

WILSON NAMED TO GOLDEN SPIKES AWARD WATCH LIST
Ethan Wilson was selected to the 2021 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List, marking the second straight season he has been named to the list. 

WILSON NAMED TO BOBBY BRAGAN COLLEGIATE SLUGGER AWARD WATCH LIST
Ethan Wilson was named to 2021 Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award watch list, which honors the nation's top collegiate hitter. Wilson was one of 48 student-athletes named to the watch list, and the lone Sun Belt Conference representative. The winner of the BBCSA will be announced in June at the Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
