MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama head women's basketball Terry Fowler announced on Wednesday that Kelsey Thompson has signed a National Letter-of-Intent and will join the program for the 2022-23 season.
Thompson is a Mobile, Ala., native, where she lettered at Davidson High School, and will have four years of eligibility.
"We are excited to welcome Mobile's finest to JagNation," Fowler said. "Kelsey has grown-up with our program in so many ways and we are thrilled she's signing with us. Kelsey's length, versatility, IQ, and ability to score will add instant value to our team. Her competitive spirit and openness to learning will continue to guide her at the next level."
Through the early part of her senior season, the 5-foot-10 guard is averaging 25.3 points per game in addition to 9.6 rebounds, 4.3 assist and 4.6 steals.
Throughout her high school career, Thompson has been named to the all-region tournament team three times and all-county twice. She was selected first-team all-state by the Alabama Sports Writers Association as a junior and as a sophomore, and as a freshman she was named third team all-state by the organization.
As a junior, Thompson averaged 17.3 points and 11 rebounds per game and was also named to the 2021 AL.com All-Coastal Alabama girls basketball team first team, just one of two players to repeat on the list from the previous season.
Thompson was selected this past summer to compete for the South Team at the 25th Annual All-Star Week North-South Girls' basketball all-star game where she scored 10 points.
During the 2019-20 season, she was selected as the most valuable player in the area tournament, while earning all-area honors following the 2016-17 season.
