THEY SAID IT
Head coach Nick Brochu
- On starting the season: "The team is very excited to begin the spring season. We practiced very hard during the fall, but it was a very long semester. We could not play that many tournaments, but we were very fortunate that we were able to play in three, especially with the younger players being able to get some match play. We have a strong schedule this week, and yes, we do start very strong with Florida State. I decided not to ease into the season. We may have fewer matches this year, so we have to make sure each of them counts. It's going to be a big test, but we want to start high to maintain that high-performance level throughout the season. We know the potential of this team is very high, but once again, what's on paper does not matter once you're on the courts."
- On Florida State: "We are working hard, and we have been able to train twice a day, and we are excited to play a strong team such as Florida State. They have a great history over there. They were always ranked top 25 in the nation. This year we have a great team, plus we also have our seniors that were given an extra year, so we have a super team. We're looking forward to going to Florida State. We're going to use Florida State as a good test to see where we are, and we are going up there looking for an upset. We've been very close to them, and we've even had some 4-3 losses against them where it came down to one match. This year, we are going to get over the hump and hopefully get an upset. We have a great mentality for it, and we are looking forward to this weekend."
On the newcomer: "We're looking forward to the new addition to the team. Julien [Evrard] played four years on the West Coast and then transferred over to us. He will be playing for us while he's doing his graduate studies. He's a player with a lot of weapons, and he's going to help at the top of the lineup."
On Cloes and Marzol: "What I love about Clem [Marzol] and Loïc [Cloes] is that even though they rank in the nation in doubles, they still put the team first. I admire their personal goals, but they always put the team first, and that's why they're the captains."
