MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama men's tennis team doubles-pairing of Loïc Cloes and Clément Marzol were ranked 52nd in the ITA Collegiate National Preseason Rankings, as announced by the ITA Wednesday.
"I'm very happy for them to start the season ranked in the top 60," stated Brochu, "They have proven in the past that they are fully capable of being ranked in the top 20. They had some incredible wins over the last two years, one of them being against the No.1 ranked team in the nation at the time."
In double action last season, Cloes and Marzol posted an 8-9 overall record. Cloes finished the 2019-20 campaign with a 13-8 overall singles record, with five of those victories coming during dual match play last spring. Cloes also appeared at No. 124 in the initial ITA singles rankings last fall. In singles play, Marzol ended the 2019-20 season with an 11-8 overall record, which included a four-match win streak.
"Unfortunately, they were unable to play together in the fall, so they don't have any results from this past fall," said Brochu. "However, they are very excited to be back together. We are already practicing, and it as if they never stopped playing for a moment. The chemistry was right there, and they could read each other's moves. It was great to see the chemistry between those two."
Cloes and Marzol were ranked 37th in the ITA Collegiate National Preseason Rankings last season.Â
"Both of them are seniors, so they want to go the extra distance and prove themselves," Brochu said. "They're practicing hard, and want to finish off their college careers ranked in the top 20, and become an All-America doubles team going into the NCAA Championships. It's great motivation to start ranked, but at the same time they know they have to earn a lot of wins this year. We have a lot of great teams on our schedule, so they will have a lot of opportunities to increase their rankings. I am very excited for them to finish their college careers very strong."
