Notes: Originally scheduled to play last Thursday, Coastal Carolina's first match of the year, against Georgia Southern at CCU Soccer Stadium, was postponed. The cause of the postponement was Hurricane Sally that made landfall approximately 60 miles from the Campus of USA. The teams have split the last two meetings, with Coastal winning off a long cross and lobbed header that went over South's goalkeeper Justice Stanford's head during the 2018 match. South conceded twice in the 2019 meeting, in the sixth and 79th minute. The Jags tied the match 101 seconds after CCU's second go-ahead goal, and took all three points when Briana Morris scored the winner when her shot deflected off a defender and rebounded into the goal.

App State: South Alabama leads 8-1-1

Current winning streak: 6 W
USA's last win in series: 1-0 (10/25/19) in Mobile.
App State's last win in series: 4-3 2OT (10/23/16) in Boone, N.C.
Last meeting: South Alabama 1, App State 0 (10/25/19)
USA's record at Boone: 2-1
USA's longest winning / losing streak in series: 6 / 1
Notes: App State struggled out of the gates with three straight losses, but picked up a three-nil victory at Georgia Southern. As a result, the Mountaineers are still tied in the lead of the Sun Belt with three points, but are one of two in the east division of the Sun Belt with a second game played. While South has had success against the Boone, N.C. based team, the games have been tight with two of the last three coming by a score of 1-0.

The University of South Alabama soccer team travels on the road for a pair of conference matches and will play the traditional schedule of Friday evening and Sunday afternoon for the first time this season.

South will face the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina University in the first match on the road with a scheduled kick off time of 6 p.m., CDT. The Conway, S.C. program notched a 4-2 win over Georgia State in Atlanta, Ga., in its only match, and currently is 1-0 in conference play with an identical overall record.

Two days later, the Jags will be in Boone, N.C. facing the Mountaineers with an 11 a.m., CDT kickoff. Appalachian State struggled out of the gates when it faced Pitt in back-to-back games. Although the initial struggle, the club picked up a conference win Sunday, defeating Georgia Southern, 3-1.

THEY SAID IT
Head coach Richard Moodie
- On the preparation: "Between hurricanes and all the other situations this year, we've still been able to maintain a good practice schedule. We have two different games in aspects that one will be played on artificial turf and one will be on natural grass. We will make sure to practice on both surfaces as they ball plays differently depending on the surface and environment. As far as the opponents, we are not in a position to take anyone lightly, especially on the road. Both opponents are coming conference wins. Troy may be our rival, but everyone out there knows we won the league and tournament last year, so every time we play teams will give us their best effort."

- On maintaining focus: "Knowing that we have had a bit of an edge on the past, you try to motivate the team by showing this is a benchmark of the program and if we want to get to a certain position this is what we have, but if you look year-to-year they've been tightly contested in most of the meetings. We are still at the mercy of COVID too, so beyond the player focus you expect to have, the entire team needs to maintain focus. These two teams are notoriously good at home that are also extremely well-coached. It's a different game every time you play, we will give the best effort we can and see what kind of result that gives us."

- On the tactical planning: "We approach most games the same, and this pair of teams are familiar conferences foes; we will analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each team and try to exploit the weaknesses they present, but that is the same preparation we use for virtually all our opponents. Our focus has shifted to can we create better goal-scoring opportunities, and can we have better quality and decision making during those chances."
