Date: 8/20
Time: 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. (CDT)
Place: Jaguar Training Center
Practice attire: Helmets and shorts, no pads
Offensive Player of the Day: Brandon Crum, So., TE, Auburn, Ala.
-Offensive coordinator Kenny Edenfield on Crum: "Our tight ends had a really good day today, especially Brandon. He had a really good offseason and has been coming along, I am excited about what he is going to do this year."
Defensive Player of the Day: Wy'Kevious Thomas, R-Fr., DL, Riverdale, Ga.
-Defensive coordinator Greg Stewart on Thomas: "Wy'Kevious Thomas has really been noticeable all throughout camp to me. We have some really good linemen that we have to replace from last year. As a nose guard, that position has to be an anchor and can't get pushed around. He's young, but he's pulled his weight and he's done a really good job. I'm excited about seeing him play this fall."
Team period highlights: There were no team periods.
Miscellaneous Notes

-There were also four different special teams segments working on multiple aspects of the kicking game, which tallied 35 minutes.
-The offensive and defensive units also worked separately four times throughout the afternoon session.
-South closed out the hour-and-forty minute practice working on its two-minute offense.
-The Jags will hold their third scrimmage of the fall Friday evening at Hancock Whitney Stadium.
-All practices are closed to the general public.
Head coach Steve Campbell
-On today's practice: "We focused on a lot of different situations and tried to put the guys into positions that they're going to have to be in come our first game. We worked on our two-minute (offense) which was good and did some short-yardage goal line. We did some play-action and perimeter run stuff. Defensively, we worked our third-down package. It was a good day for us."
-On the energy at practice being good throughout camp: "This group really loves football and they love each other. You can tell they've missed football because you can see that they're having fun out there. They realize how blessed we are to be able to play this game and they are appreciative of that. Everyday they've been out here, they've had really good energy and worked hard. That's a tribute to their parents that raised them. They are a very unselfish group. They are a lot of fun to coach right now."
-On the focus of the last scrimmage Friday night: "We've still got some competition going at a few spots, and some things that need to shake themselves out depth-chart wise. Offensively, I thought we did a good job protecting the ball in our last scrimmage. We need to continue that and create a couple more explosive plays. Defensively, I like the way they flew around the ball in the last scrimmage, and I want to see the same kind of effort and energy of the guys sprinting to the ball. Our conditioning ought to be a little bit better than it was a week ago, which hopefully will lead to fewer bust. Also, cut down on some of the penalties on that side of the ball and just polish up our execution."
-On the plan following Friday night's scrimmage: "Tomorrow night's our last 'camp day'. Saturday morning, we'll start with a mock scrimmage where we'll come out in shirts and helmets and cover a 100 different situations. When we return to work on Monday, it'll all be Southern Miss. We'll devote a good week-and-a-half to them. "
Junior LB A.J. DeShazor
-On the defense appearing to have fun at practice: "It's about just being able to play football right now, a lot of schools like in the Big Ten and Pac 12 are not able to play. We are taking every day in and enjoying every moment of it. It has been a grind, but we understand that this is the season we have to make something happen."
-On how the Jaguar defense has improved during camp: "We've improved from the standpoint of playing hard and having everybody doing their assignment. We have a lot of depth on this defense, we have a lot of guys who should know where to be at all times who are making plays."
-On how he has improved in his time with the program: "I've grown so much in the time that I've been here by being able to slow the game down and making plays mentally before the ball is even snapped. Now I'm seeing the play before it is there and picking up little habits that the offense we are facing might have from watching film."
Senior OL Jacob Shoemaker
-On the progress he's seen: "We're looking really good right now. Everybody is locked and focused, and ready to play the next play. Everybody's just ready to go."
-On the excitement to just go play football: "We're very excited. We missed the spring. It feels good to hit our teammates, but it's going to feel even better to be able to hit other people."
-On how the offensive line has improved from scrimmage to scrimmage: "We've improved a lot. Everybody is getting to know their assignments and the plays. Like I said earlier, everyone is focused and just ready."
-On his expectations for himself: "I just want to see myself put in the extra work and continue to get better every day. I just want us to have a great year."
