MOBILE, Ala. – Stadium released a list of the top men's basketball assistant coaches in the Sun Belt Conference on Tuesday, with the organization including University of South Alabama associate head coach Amorrow Morgan in the group.
Morgan — entering his third season on the Jaguar staff — was ranked third on the list after Stadium polled a minimum of 20 coaches in the league.
"Amorrow is as good as there is in the country, period," said South head coach Richie Riley. "He is extremely detailed in all that he does and is a high-level recruiter, but what he does best is teach the game. He is more than ready to lead his own program. I'm thankful that our guys get to learn from a man like him every day."
"He's well-respected by his peers and experienced beyond his years on and off the court and in recruiting," added one of the Sun Belt assistant coaches who was surveyed.
In his first two seasons with the program, Morgan has helped the Jags post a 37-28 record after South won its final eight games to end last year 20-11; that was the school's first 20-win season since the 2008-09 campaign. That included a 13-7 mark in Sun Belt action as the Jaguars secured the second seed at the league tournament, which was cancelled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic before USA could play a game in the event.
Morgan was also a member of Riley's staff at Nicholls in 2017-18, helping the Colonels share the Southland Conference title — the program's first league championship in 20 years — after posting their most wins in a season since 1995 with a 21-11 record overall including going 15-3 in conference play. He was an assistant at Henderson (Ark.) State for two years as well after beginning his coaching career at Illinois-Springfield during the 2013-14 campaign.
A two-time all-Big Sky Conference selection at Idaho State, Morgan received his bachelor's degree from the school in physical education with an emphasis in sport management in 2012.
