JAGS’ BERGE EARNS ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama's Emilie Berge has been named to the 2019-20 College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District® Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, it was announced by the organization.

The senior — who hails from Iveland, Vest-Agder, Norway — is now eligible for selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team that will be released on Thursday, June 25.

A three-time All-American, Berge garnered second-team honors in both the heptathlon and pentathlon during the 2019 campaign while earning honorable mention accolades in the heptathlon the previous spring.  The Women's Field Most Outstanding Performer at the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championship, she has claimed five league titles in the heptathlon (2017-19) and pentathlon (2017, '19) during her career while also placing second in the latter event in February.

Berge is currently the Sun Belt and school record holder in both events, having recorded a high of 5,718 points in the heptathlon and 4,203 points in the pentathlon.

She earned her degree in biology from South at the conclusion of the spring semester — posting a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average — and has been named to Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List each of her first three years in the program.

Berge made the team in District 4, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Puerto Rico.  All nominees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or greater, and be at least a sophomore both athletically and academically.
