MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama senior Emilie Berge was voted second-team Academic All-America® with the release of the College Sports Information Directors of America 2020 Academic All-America® Division I Track & Field/Cross Country teams on Thursday.
She is the fourth member of the Jaguar women's track and field program to earn Academic All-America® honors and the first since JoAnna McCoy was a third-team selection in 2016.
In competition, Berge has recorded All-American performances on three occasions during her time at South having earned second-team recognition in both the heptathlon and pentathlon in 2019 to go along with honorable mention accolades in the heptathlon in 2018. The Iveland, Vest-Agder, Norway, native has won five championships in Sun Belt Conference competition in the two events, claiming the title in the heptathlon at the outdoor meet three straight years from 2017-19 while finishing first in the pentathlon at the indoor championship during the 2017 and '19 seasons.
She was chosen the Women's Field Most Outstanding Performer at the Sun Belt Indoor Championship in 2019 as well.
Berge currently holds the school and conference records in the two events with scores of 5,718 points in the heptathlon and 4,203 points in the pentathlon, both recorded during the 2019 campaign.
A member of the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List each of her first three years in the program, Berge graduated from USA with a degree in biology in May after recording a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average.
