SCOUTING THE JAGUARSÂ Â Â
– South Alabama (4-11) enters the midweek contest at Nicholls State looking to snap a six-game skid.
– The Jaguars lost all five of their games over the weekend at the Mardi Gras Classic and was no-hit and run-ruled by Stephen F. Austin, 9-0 on Sunday.
– Katelyn Gruich (.325) registered a pair of home runs and drove in six runs for South at the home event and earned her second all-tournament honors of the spring.
– For the year, Gruich has seven extra-base hits and is tied with Kamdyn Kvistad (.277) for the team lead in RBI with 10.
– Freshman outfielder Mackenzie Brasher leads the club with a .364 batting average. She has scored eight runs and is 3-for-4 in her stolen base attempts.
– Amanda Flynn (.351) and MC Nichols (.300) are also having solid seasons at the plate. Nichols is a perfect 5-for-5 in her stolen base attempts.
SCOUTING THE COLONELSÂ Â Â
– Nicholls State (6-11) won two of its five games over the weekend at the Mardi Gras Mambo held in Youngsville, La. The Colonels' two wins came against Detroit Mercy and Alcorn State
– NSU also lost to Sun Belt member ULM (6-1) on Sunday.
– South and Nicholls have two other common opponents that they have already plated this season – Jacksonville and Southern. USA is 1-1 against those two opponents, while NSU is 1-2.
– Kennedy Hebert has been outstanding at the plate as she holds a .447 batting average and already has 21 hits this season. She has scored 10 runs, hit four home runs and driven in 11, while earning nine free passes.
– Melise Gossen is batting .373, while Corynn Major is hitting at a .345 clip.
– Caitlyn Garcia is also tied with Hebert for the team lead in RBI (11).
– In the circle, the Colonels hold a team earned run average of 6.09. Nicholls has also given up 14 home runs this spring.
THE SERIES VS. NICHOLLS STATEÂ Â Â
– South Alabama and Nicholls State have met 18 previous times in the all-time series.
– The Jaguars hold a 13-5 advantage in the series and have won the last 11, including last season's 3-2 win in Mobile at the Mardi Gras Invitational.
– In that meeting, South scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally back and defeat Nicholls.
– The Jags have one four of the six meetings in Thibodaux. Nicholls won the first two meetings on their home field, but the Jaguars have won the last four and averaged seven runs a game.
– Half of the games have been decided with two runs or less.
– South will also hosts the Colonels in Mobile on March 17.

– The meeting will be the fourth of five scheduled games against a SLC opponent this spring.

South is 0-3 against the league this season falling 6-2 at McNeese State (2/18) and then dropped a pair (7-4 and 9-0 [6inn.]) against Stephen F. Austin at the Mardi Gras Classic this past weekend.
