JAGUAR TRACK & FIELD SET TO COMPETE IN THE SUN BELT CONFERENCE INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama men's and women's track and field programs will travel to Birmingham, Ala. to compete in the 2020 Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships Monday and Tuesday.

THE FIELD (12) 
- Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Little Rock, Louisiana, South Alabama, Texas State, Troy, ULM, UT Arlington     

NOTES
- The Jags return nine all-conference performers from last year's Sun Belt Indoor Championships: Emilie Berge (second-team high jump, first-team long jump and first-team pentathlon), Graham Collins (second-team heptathlon), Christian Ellis (first-team triple jump), Autavia Fluker (first-team shot put), Noah Mumme (third-team pole vault), and the second-team all-conference 4x400m relay team consisting of Jalen Boyd, Javen Jackson, Xavier Rogers and Cam Stewart.  
- Currently two Jaguar student-athletes hold the top marks in the Sun Belt Conference in their respective events: Ellis (triple jump, 15.44m) and Rickssen Opont (shot put, 17.43m). 
- Opont was named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week this past week, his second honor in three weeks. Opont broke his program record in the shot put (17.43m) for the third straight meet; he also, set a new personal best in the weight throw (17.46m).
- Berge is currently the Sun Belt Conference record holder in the pentathlon. She won the event last year setting a new league standard. Berge then went on to Indoor Nationals where she bested her mark from the conference championships establishing, the conference record of 4,203 points.    
- 49 Jaguar student-athletes are slated to compete Monday and Tuesday at the league championship event.  
- Day one of the championships will begin at 9 a.m. with the men's heptathlon. Field event action is set to begin at 12 p.m. with the women's shot put while running events are scheduled to begin at 4:35 p.m. with the women's mile trials.

Head coach Paul Brueske
- On the Sun Belt Championships: "We are definitely looking forward to the conference meet. We have a few athletes that are coming off injuries, but we are doing what we can to have them ready for Monday. I'm hopeful that we will be able to go out and compete to the level we are capable of."
- On the week of practice: "This week's training has been good. This close to conference we are just trying to fine tune a few things and try to get everyone feeling good. We want our athletes to be as healthy as possible so they can be ready to compete."
