JAG WOMEN’S GOLF TO OPEN SPRING AT SUGAR BOWL INTERCOLLEGIATE


MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women's golf team will open its spring schedule at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at English Turn Golf & Country Club Feb. 16-18 in New Orleans.

The three-day, 54-hole event will be played at 6,336 yards and par of 73 on the Jack Nicklaus Signature Design Course at English Turn. South Alabama will compete with No. 10 Florida, No. 13 Michigan State, No. 23 Houston, Colorado State, Miami (FL), North Texas, SMU, Iowa, Tulsa, Southern Miss, UAB and host Tulane for the tournament title.

The South Alabama lineup will feature Julie Hovland playing in the one spot, followed by Siti Shaari, Belinda May, Caroline Berge and Nele Mattner.

The Jags enter the tournament with a 297.33 team scoring average in three fall events. USA posted its lowest tournament of the fall in its final fall event, the Pat Bradley Invitational, with a three-round 881 that featured a season-low team round of 283.

Shaari enters the spring coming off the lowest three-round score of her career after firing a 9-under par 207 at the Pat Bradley Invitational to earn a season-best finish of third place. Shaari finished under par in all three tournaments of the fall, and earned top-five finishes in each tournament. She carries a 70.00 scoring average into Sunday's opening round.

Hovland also enters the spring after posting her lowest tournament, a 2-under par 214, and best finish (T-7th) at the Pat Bradley Invitational, where she fired a 4-under par 68 in the opening round. Hovland carries a 73.78 scoring average into the opening round of the tournament.

May shot a career-low 2-under par 70 in the opening round of the Pat Bradley Invitational, and enters the Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate with a 76.56 scoring average through three events. Berge carries a 77.78 scoring average into the opening round, while Mattner enters with a 79.17 scoring average.
