MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama track and field and cross country head coach Paul Brueske announced the 2021 indoor and outdoor schedules on Wednesday afternoon.
"The schedule is still tentative as there may still be some curveballs thrown at us," said Brueske. "However, I think we will have a lot of really good competition to look forward to. We are all just excited to be able to compete after the premature ending of the season due to COVID-19 last year."
South Alabama's indoor schedule begins with four consecutive trips to the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. The Jags will compete at the UAB Invitational on Jan. 15 and at the Samford Multi/Clash on Jan. 21-23. The Jags will close out the regular indoor season hosting the Jaguar Invitational on Feb. 7 at the same venue.
The indoor portion of the schedule will conclude with the Sun Belt Indoor Conference Championships on Feb. 22-23 held at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The NCAA Indoor Championships are scheduled for March 12-13 in Fayetteville, Ark at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
The Jaguars will open their outdoor season hosting back-to-back home meets with the Jaguar Opener (March 5) and the USA Invite on (March 12).
Following the two home meets, USA will travel to compete at the Tiger Track Classic held on March 19-20 at the Hutsell-Rosen Track in Auburn, Ala. South Alabama will wrap up the month with two meets scheduled for March 24-27. The team will be sending competitors meeting minimum standards to compete at the Texas Relays, hosted by the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, and the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C., hosted by North Carolina State University.
The Golden Eagle, hosted by Southern Mississippi, runs on April 2-3, while the Crimson Classic runs on April 8-10. The Jaguars will split the team to compete in two meets midway through April. USA will be sending student-athletes to the War Eagle Classic in Auburn, Ala., April 16-17, while some student-athletes will compete at the Mobile Invitational on April 16 held at the Jaguar Track Complex.
The Jags end the regular season at fellow Sun Belt Conference member Louisiana when they compete at the UL Last Chance meet in Lafayette, La., on April 30.
Following a two-week break, South Alabama will host the Sun Belt Outdoor Conference Championships (May 13-15). South Alabama last hosted the league's outdoor championship event in 2014.
The postseason continues two weeks later with the first round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships held on May 27-29 in Jacksonville, Fla., and with the finals taking place on June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
