SOUTH WOMEN’S BASKETBALL RELEASES NON-CONFERENCE SLATE

11/10/2020 8:52:00 AM

MOBILE, Ala. – Four straight games at home to begin the year and a trip to a Southeastern Conference opponent highlight the University of South Alabama women's basketball team's non-conference schedule announced Tuesday.

The season gets underway when the Jaguars play host to Mobile at noon (CST) on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the Mitchell Center, with the homestand continuing Tuesday, Dec. 1 when Tulane visits for a noon tip.  South will conclude the stretch with match-ups against Nicholls (Saturday, Dec. 5 at 4 p.m.) and William Carey (Tuesday, Dec. 8 at noon).

The Jags' first weekend on the road will include games at Alabama State (Friday, Dec. 11) and Auburn (Sunday, Dec. 13), with their final contest prior to the start of Sun Belt Conference action coming at New Orleans on Sunday, Dec. 20.

"This is going to be a challenging year, but we have a veteran team," said Jaguar head coach Terry Fowler.  "We have great games with Tulane and Auburn, and a Nicholls program that has given us fits since I've been here.  A game on the road against Alabama State is always tough and we finish up at UNO, we really believe it will set us up to be prepared for Sun Belt Conference play."

Tip-off times were also announced for South's Sun Belt games at the Mitchell Center this winter.  The Jags will play host to Georgia Southern Jan. 1-2 with both contests getting underway at 1 p.m., while the following weekend Coastal Carolina comes to Mobile for match-ups that will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8 and 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9.  The Jaguars will play host to Georgia State on Jan. 29-30, with games tipping at 6 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively, with their lone home contest against rival Troy scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13.  When Appalachian State comes to town games will get underway at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19 with Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 20 slated for a 2 p.m. tip.

It was announced by the league at the end of October that Sun Belt regular-season action will include only division games.

"Personally it was tough to get used to the thought of that, but it's what is best for the student-athletes; their safety is the most important thing," Fowler said.  "After you sit down and look at it, to be able to play what I call a 'baseball/softball' schedule with the same opponent is the best thing for us to do to mitigate the spread of the virus."

The South Alabama Athletics Ticket Office concludes a distancing seat selection event this week for season-ticket holders, limited single-game tickets may be available for sale each home game.  All seats, lower and upper bowl, will be reserved seating for the 2020-2021 season.  Visit usajaguars.com/tickets to purchase.

Student tickets will be allocated through the North entry of the Mitchell Center on gameday and are first come, first serve until the entire allocation is taken. A student ID is required to obtain a student ticket.

The Jaguars finished the 2019-20 campaign with a 16-16 mark overall, winning their first two games at the Sun Belt Tournament to advance to the semifinals before the event was cancelled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
