NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama cross country runners Carolien Millenaar and Onesmus Kemboi were named the Sun Belt Conference Men's and Women's Runners of the Weeks as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

The selection for the weekly conference honor is the first of both their careers, while Millenaar's marks the 14th by a Jaguar woman and Kemboi's is the 43rd for a male student-athlete at South. The selections also mark the first by a Jaguar on either side since Warno Potgieter's back on Oct. 4, 2017.

Millenaar not only got her individual cross country season off to a solid start capturing the individual title at the Azalea City Classic last Friday, but led by the junior, South Alabama took home the first seven spots and won the team title at the meet scoring 15 points. Millenaar crossed the line first with a time of 18:16.7, which was 30 seconds faster than the next closest runner, teammate Andonet Cheruiyot. The title was the first of her career as she had finished second two previous times, both of which had been at previous Azalea City Classic meets.

Kemboi – a junior – took home the individual title at the Azalea City Classic and led the Jaguar men to the team title as well. Kemboi crossed the line with a time of 15:41.1 to earn his first collegiate victory. The cross country race was the first by Kemboi in a Jaguar uniform as he ran his first two cross country seasons at Florida A&M. The win also marked the first in his collegiate career at either school.
