-South's defense intercepted three passes and broke up four others, and was credited with 10 stops behind the line of scrimmage including three sacks while surrendering a total of 299 yards.
-The unit forced eight three-and-outs on the day, with five of those coming on the opening eight possessions of the scrimmage.

-Of the five individuals who recorded multiple receptions in the scrimmage, three are in their first season with the Jaguars while another sat out last fall as a redshirt.
-While Frankie Onate was successful on all three of his field-goal tries, Diego Guajardo hit all three extra-point attempts following South's touchdowns.

Head coach Steve Campbell
On his thoughts on the second scrimmage: "I thought defensively we were ahead of the offense today.  The defense flew around to the ball well and made a bunch of plays.  I think we've got more speed defensively and our defensive line held up well.  Offensively, we're still not clicking or hitting on all cylinders even though I thought we practiced well during the week; our tempo is not what it needs to be.  We're not as efficient as we need to be, but we still have time.  We're playing a lot of young guys on that side of the ball.  We need to make an [explosive] play, normally [when we make an explosive play] things pick up and we get in a rhythm.  We had a hard time getting in a rhythm today."
On the play of Cephus Johnson: "I need to watch the film and see exactly.  Last week [the defense] showed us a little different look and did some things we hadn't seen during the week [leading up to the scrimmage].  They did one little thing, which wasn't something major, but they showed it a lot and we hadn't seen it a lot.  After the [first] scrimmage, we worked on it and today, they showed us a little bit different look.  I like the evolution of what we're doing defensively.  Offensively, it's good for a young quarterback [like Cephus] to see different things that he's being shown right now.  I don't really worry about that as much right now as I do about our tempo.  If we are able to get in a better tempo, he'll start reading things and going through his progressions a lot quicker.  He goes through them quickly at practice, but scrimmages have been different for him so far.  I think we are a better team defensively, but somebody has to step up and help Cephus and make a play so we can get some tempo going."
On simulating the scrimmage like a game and dealing with the heat: "I thought we handled the heat well today.  That's one thing I'm very pleased with.  We play a game in 17 days and we tried to simulate that with breaks and TV time outs.  We did all that so that it wasn't just play, play, play.  We wanted to simulate it as close to a game as we could and I thought they handled the heat well."

Junior OL Brian Ankerson
On what he saw from an offensive standpoint: "We had a decent run game today but we could have passed the ball better.  We were able to get a lot more things moving after the 'halftime' break, but obviously we have to improve our pass game and inside zone."
On explosive plays: "Towards the end [of the scrimmage] we had some big plays.  We had a nice touchdown run called back because of a holding penalty.  We didn't have near as many explosive plays as I felt we should have."
On what improvement he saw from scrimmage one to two: "I definitely saw a big improvement in our communication, especially [identifying] what the defense was and checking the play correctly."

Sophomore S Keith Gallmon
On the defense's play during the second scrimmage: "I feel like the defense flew around [to the ball] pretty well today.  We were able to come out and make plays early and put the pressure on the offense. That's the main thing we've been stressing [in camp]; we want to come out full speed and run to the ball all the time.  I think we did that today."
On what has led to impressive performances by the defense in both scrimmages: "I feel like the defense is really coming together.  We believe in each other and we trust everyone to do their job.  We just need to keep believing in each other."

Up next: USA will be back in action with a 9:30 a.m. practice on Thursday at the James A. and Frances H. Yance Football Practice Facility.
