JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two University of South Alabama student-athletes closed the 2019 season during the second day of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Round hosted by North Florida.

NOTES
-Hunter Appling ran the men's 110m hurdles in 14.18 seconds and placed 39th overall. The freshman broke the USA program record and garnered first-team all-conference honors with a 14.04-second effort at the Sun Belt championships. 
-Senior Jobi Finau did not receive a measurement in the men's discus throw after fouling on all three attempts. It was his first career regionals appearance.
 
UP NEXT
The NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round concludes Saturday with the women's shot put at 4:15 p.m. and the men's triple jump at 5:30 p.m.

On Appling's performance… "Appling gained some valuable experience. As a true freshman, he was in the fastest heat of the competition and racing against what will probably be the eventual national champion. It's quite an accomplishment for a freshman to get to regionals, so we're proud of him."
 
On Finau's Jaguar career…"Finau has finished with all-conference recognition for us before. He's been a consistent point-scorer for us at the conference level. It was good that he finally made it to regionals. It's not the finish that we wanted for him, but overall he had a good career with us."
