NEW ORLEANS – The University of South Alabama claimed both Sun Belt Conference Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards, as announced Wednesday by the league office. Silje Lindstad was recognized as the Women's Track Athlete of the Week and Autavia Fluker won Field Athlete of the Week accolades after their performances at last week's Jaguar Opener.
Lindstad won the Jaguar Opener 1,500m on her first collegiate attempt with a time of 4:44.50. In addition, the freshman took the runner-up spot in the 3,000m after crossing the line in 10:30.63.
Fluker set a new school shot put record at the Jaguar Opener with a 16.12m (52-10.50) mark which leads the NCAA Division I East and is tied for second on the 2019 NCAA Division I performance list. The junior also had a personal-best hammer throw of 57.31m (188-00.25) which is the fifth-longest in school history and ranks among the top 20 in the nation this season. Â
USA hosts the South Alabama Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Jaguar Track. Â
