JAG SOFTBALL’S BRITTANI REID NAMED COMMUNITY COFFEE SBC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama junior outfielder Brittani Reid was named the Community Coffee Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday after helping the Jaguars record a 4-1 record over the weekend at the Mardi Gras Invitational.

Reid's player of the week selection – the first of her career – marks the 17th offensive player honor and the 40th total conference weekly award selection in program history.

Reid had an outstanding week at the plate as she was 9-for-18 (.500) at the plate with two doubles, three walks, three steals and seven runs scored from the Jaguar leadoff. Reid also posted a .611 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage. For her play at the tournament, Reid was one of three South players named to the all-tournament team.

Reid began her week by reaching base in two of her three plate appearances at No. 1 Florida State on Wednesday. The junior outfielder was then a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a double in an 8-0, run-rule victory over Stephen F. Austin. Reid walked twice and against No. 18 Illinois and then went 2-for-3 in another run-rule win over Hofstra where she stole two bases.

Reid then played a part in both of South Alabama's two-run, seventh-inning victories to close out the tournament. She reached on an error and then scored the tying run Kennedy Cronan's RBI double on Saturday night against SFA. Reid then recorded her third multi-hit performance of the week as she went 2-for-4 against Nicholls state with one of her hits leading off the bottom of the seventh – a single back up the middle. Reid came home on the next pitch as Cronan delivered a two-run blast to tie the game up, one in which the Jags went on to win 3-2.

Through the first three weeks of the season, Reid holds a team-best .394 batting average, while she either holds the outright lead or is tied for the club lead in runs (12), doubles (4), triples (1) and stolen bases.

South Alabama (8-6) will travel to South Florida to compete in the Diamond 9 Citrus II Classic held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. USA will open up with two games on Friday (vs. Bradley - 12:30 p.m. [CT] and vs. Purdue - 3 p.m. [CT]) and then close out the tournament with two games on Saturday (vs. Savannah State - 11 a.m. [CT] and vs. Bradley - 1:30 p.m. [CT].
