NOTES
- Millenaar has won both her 5k races this fall and been selected as the Sun Belt's Female Runner of the Week following each victory.
- In her last outing, Millenaar crossed the line first out of the 122 runner field at the 5th Annual Wingfoot Classic in Cartersville, Ga, with a time of 17:36.3, shaving nearly 30 seconds off of her previous personal best set at the 2017 Sun Belt Championships.
- The junior was one of six Jaguar women to set new personal best in the 5k. Led by Millenaar, the South Alabama women won their second straight team title with 29 points – 16 points fewer than second-place Samford out of the 14-team field.
- Like the Jag women, South's men have won both of their meets this season taking home the team titles at the Azalea City Classic (16 pts) and at the Wingfoot Classic (32 pts).
- Potgieter has finished second at both his meets this season, while Kemboi – a newcomer won his first race and finished fourth in his last outing.
- With the fourth-place finish, Kemboi has now recorded seven top 10 finishes during his career dating back to his time at Florida A&M.
- Both Sand and N. Pudner also set new 8k personal best for the South men in their last meet.
- South's men are still ranked 11th in this week's USTFCCCA South Region poll, while the women moved up one spot to No. 14.
THEY SAID IT
Head coach Parker Cowles
- On what he's looking for from his women's squad this weekend: "The women are racing two very good teams from Georgia State and Troy. The course is pretty flat and fast, and the race distance is only 5k, so I want to see us be aggressive. I want them to take some chances and run hard from the start as we begin to prepare for conference."
- On his expectations for the men: "On the men's side, I still want to see the team be controlled. We ran very well in Atlanta two weeks ago, but we have three freshmen in the top seven and they are going to be important factors in the team performance in a month's time. Lance [Cunigan], Charlie [Slaughter] and Caleb [Smith] are still learning how to approach a 5-mile race. I want to see the whole team be pretty deliberate early on and progressively get faster throughout. On the men's side especially, it is a pretty small field, so they need to learn how to race hard, regardless of the competition and field."
