Richie Riley
- On McGee's role with the team: "Herb's leadership for our team can't be overstated. He brings a solidness to our team that is really needed. We have a lot of guys that are capable of scoring a lot of points and changing the game that way, and can do that too, but he gives us a stability of who we want to be. Every day he comes out and he has winning trait after winning trait, and that's what changes our team. Just like all of our guards, he can play multiple spots, so he'll be doing that this year. He's improved his body, which is great; he's lived in the weight room. It's changed his game. He's more explosive this year, shooting the ball much more consistently and his defense has improved. But the thing that jumps off the page is he's like a coach on the floor. He understands what we want to do offensively and defensively, and he's not afraid to hold guys accountable."
- On Fox: "Andre Fox has a way about him in scoring the basketball. Some guys are just natural scorers and he's one of those guys. When he has the ball in his hands, you're thinking he gives you a great opportunity to get points every time he catches it. He shoots it with unbelievable range, both off the catch and off the deck. He's really improved his ability to play in the paint. He's getting to where he can drive you and play off two feet. He's also our best on-ball defender in the full court. He puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the ball handler and we'll use him to do that a lot this year. He's going to have some big nights offensively, but he can really impact winning with how he guards the ball."
- On Lott: "Chad Lott is a wolf. He is the ultimate warrior. He does every single thing that equates to winning. He averaged 14 (points) and 5 (rebounds) at Howard, so he can score the ball, but he does so many other things. He's our best offensive rebounder, and the toughest, most competitive kid on our roster. He brings a level that we missed last year. Every loose ball – he owns them. Every 50-50 rebound – he owns them. He brings a toughness and a chip on his shoulder. He came in this summer and he won the belt for exemplifying the most competitive nature. He did that as someone brand new. It showed immediately what winning means to him. When you put him out there, he's going to do everything in his power to help us win."
Herb McGee
- On how he approaches his leadership role: "Just staying consistent. If you're consistent and do the right thing each and every day, when you speak, there's credibility behind it. Guys will follow that and listen. If you're holding yourself accountable and doing the right thing, that gives you the opportunity to hold others accountable."
- On the benefits of getting a second year in the system: "Knowing what to expect, but not only that, by playing in the system, you have an edge over the guys that haven't played in it. Being a veteran in the system, you can help the younger guys out. That can only help us."
- On what Fox and Lott bring to the table: "Lott will bring energy, for sure. The fans can expect him to not stop. He's going to give it his all each and every night and won't make excuses. He's a great rebounder and has a Kobe turnaround shot that he makes at a high clip. Fox is explosive; he can go for 20 points on any given night. He can shoot the ball really well and can score at all three levels. Not only that, he can defend."
