THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES
Justice Stanford currently has 20 shutouts in her career, which is tied for first in school history, and 10th in Sun Belt Conference history with Sarah Hay, Kelsie Langford and Melissa Drish.
USA is 52-8-4 in all games against Sun Belt teams since the start of the 2013 season.
South Alabama has outshot its last two opponents 44-22 overall and 21-6 on goal in two shutout losses.
Both of Brenna McPartlan's goals this season have come on set pieces and were game winners. She nearly tied Sunday's contest with a free kick that was tipped over the bar. McPartlan is tied for third in the conference in game-winning goals.
South Alabama last lost its last two games when outshooting its opponent after starting the year 3-0. The team is 0-5 when being outshot.
Troy's last visit to Mobile ended in a 1-0 victory over South Alabama, its only win in the last six meetings.
The last 13 games between the Trojans and Jaguars have been decided by one goal or fewer. Three have gone into overtime, including last season's double OT contest.
Georgia Southern has been outscored 15-0 in the last five games — all losses — against South Alabama. The Eagles have lost six straight in the series.
MOODIE'S QUOTES ON THE WEEKEND
On closing out the homestand: "I'm upset but not disappointed in the team because our performances have been great, we're just missing goals. You can have all the stats in the world. We're looking at possession statistics – 68-32 against Coastal Carolina and 70-30 against Texas State – but the only statistic that matters is goals. It's like there's a barricade in front of the goal right now for us and we've just got to smash it. We cannot lose the desire to keep going, to win and keep that belief about us. It's harder to turn a team around that's not playing well. We played bad against Georgia State and we won and we played better against Coastal and Texas State and lost. If you asked me what I'd rather have right now, I'd rather be playing well and doing the right things versus playing poorly and grinding out results. I think we're better than those two teams we played last weekend and hopefully we get to see them again in the tournament."
On a sense of urgency from team after 1-2 start: "You're scared to lose them. The performances wouldn't suggest that but what do you tell a team that does everything right and the ball can't go in the back of the net? Other than our strikers spending more time in front of goal, our biggest fear is how do the last two losses impact us? It's fight or flight right now. I'll be more upset if we come out and don't perform. We've created 44 chances in the last two games, 21 on goal, 18 corner kicks and we haven't scored. My thing with the girls after the game was, we have to regroup on Tuesday and figure out where we go from here. We have too many positive and influential characters in our locker room to let anyone give up."
On the rivalry with Troy: "Genuinely, I couldn't care less if we were playing Troy, Georgia State or Georgia Southern this weekend. I'm just so focused on South Alabama right now. I know the rivalry is there, but I'm not even going to talk about it because we have to figure ourselves out. I looked at the Appalachian State game and how they won it, the goal that Appalachian State scored from the half-way line that bounced in, and I thought we could use some luck like that. Troy crossed the ball low to the front post and my son could kick a ball harder and it rolled through the goalkeeper's legs. They're having the same problems so they need to figure themselves out and I'll worry about my team. I know the rivalry's there, but for us it's so much bigger than South Alabama vs. Troy right now, it's us trying to find our way."
On Georgia Southern: "That game last year was also a turning point for this team because I remember in the first half we were playing poorly and Georgia Southern have the ability to come out and play good soccer. The mindset for us has to be, figure out Friday, and that's why that performance is so important. Sunday will be a good test as well for us. We're at home and we have three more home games left, so we need to enjoy it."
