THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES
The Jaguars have outshot their opponent 17 times in the last 20 games.
USA was 3-0-1 in overtime games last season (3-0 in Sun Belt play). The year prior, the Jags went 0-3-1 in extra time.
South Alabama is 15-2-1 in its last 18 games.
The Jaguars won their season opener for the first time since 2015.
Abi Mills' game-winner last week at UAB was her first career goal. She earned her first career start and played 74 minutes in the season opener after being limited to just eight appearances last season due to injury.
Justice Stanford's next shutout will be the 20th of her career, moving her into a tie for first at South Alabama, and 10th in league history.
The Jaguar defense has allowed only eight shots in the last two games (Southeastern Louisiana and UAB) with just two of those hitting the target.
Both Chattanooga and Mississippi State have won their first two matches by identical 3-0 scores.
Friday will be the first meeting between South Alabama and Chattanooga.
Chloe Arnold, who leads the Mocs with three goals and seven points, had two goals and an assist in Chattanooga's 3-0 win over Georgia Southern on Sunday.
The Mocs are 2-0 for the first time since 2009.
South Alabama is 3-1-1 against Mississippi State in the last five meetings between the two schools. The Bulldogs' last visit to Mobile ended in a 2-1 double-overtime victory in 2016.
The Bulldogs have increased their win total in each of the last four seasons, culminating in a 9-5-4 record last year, the program's first winning season since 2009.
MOODIE'S QUOTES ON THE WEEKEND
On opening up the home schedule: "We're excited to play at home. We've got a long run of games The Cage – we stay at home through the end of August – which is a huge advantage for us. If you look at the Southeastern Louisiana game, the stands were full. The students are back in school this week so we're hoping we can get a lot of support."
On what he likes from the offense: "We create chances and I think we've proven that. I thought I saw 7- or 8-0 scorelines in college soccer last weekend, and if you go through the stats and look at the shot counts, it's not much different than what we've been putting up. It all just comes down to the moment of quality and fighting for that opportunity. We just have to be a little more patient to create that true opportunity to score. I like the fact that we're creating. We just need to keep going."
On preparing for Chattanooga: "You can have the tendency to overthink it. We're going to do our homework and we respect them, but no less than an Alabama A&M and no more than an LSU or Ole Miss. They're a good team with a lot of good pieces, but they have to come here and show up. Those are things that are uncontrollable as a coach. We'll be ready come Friday."
On how Mississippi State has changed since last year: "They have a lot of new pieces. When we saw them last year they were 6-0 and off to the best start in school history. Truthfully, that day we should have won. I thought, even in 90 minutes, we were the better team. But now they have good players and they're dangerous on set pieces. It's a similar to team to the one we saw last year. They're much improved under Tom (Anagnost) and he's done a great job with them. They'll come here and work hard. As long as we're ready, we can put up a really good fight on Sunday."
