THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Nick Brochu
Opening statement:Â "I think doubles was ours. We just came back from H.E.B. with some awesome doubles over there and we were very confident. We were cruising in number one and cruising in number three. It looked like it was in the bag, but in tennis you don't play on the clock. You can't run out the clock so you have to finish the match. At number three, we got tight and we got nervous. Wilmington stepped up and we lost in the tiebreaker. We gave it to them. That's one point, but it's a big point because of momentum. You then go into singles needing four out of six which is doable, but it's tough against a good Wilmington team. Then we got into position to probably do that. We were up on three courts and it looked like we were going turn it around on court four, but it didn't workout."
Â
On the team's performance today: "Today we weren't there. Wilmington wanted it more than us. We couldn't carry our momentum from winning three matches last weekend into today. I don't know if we were over confident, maybe like a Super Bowl hangover. Wilmington was ready and I don't think we were. I think we are going to learn from this and get ready for this weekend because we have Troy. I know Troy is waiting for us."
Â
On positives from three singles wins: "Sacha [Modica] was the first one on the board. Made it 3-1, but one through three we were playing solid. We have to step up below. At H.E.B., the bottom of the lineup stepped up. Today we weren't there. Losing is one thing, but losing in 45 minutes, that's unacceptable. We have to meet, regroup and go back to work tomorrow morning, practice hard and get ready for Troy."
