Miscellaneous Notes
- Junior Shaforia Kines is the lone returning player on the squad to start the majority of the games last season with 33 starts and missing just one due to injury.
- Kines finished last season fourth in assists to turnover ratio (1.6) and eighth in assists (116) in the Sun Belt.
- Kines also had 14 games in double-digit points, including dropping 10 or more in eight of the final 10 contests.
- Redshirt sophomore Savannah Jones is the team's returning leading scorer (12.1 ppg) and ranked 13th in the Sun Belt in that category. Jones also made 70 three-point baskets, third most in a single-season in program history, and had two games with six makes, tied for fourth most in a game in program history behind three-former Jags who had seven.
- Jones was named the 2017-18 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year and scored 10 or more points in 22 contests, including four of 20 or more. Her 400 points were the fourth-most and her 141 made field goals ranked as fifth most by a freshman at USA.
- Jones was also named to the conference's preseason first-team prior to the upcoming campaign.
- The Jags lose three guards, Genesis Perrymond, Erin Autio and Candice Williams, all to graduation.
- Perrymond and Autio combined for 61 starts last season.
- Perrymond was the team's fifth-leading scorer with 7.2 points per game.

Head Coach Terry Fowler
- On the guards: "Really good group and a lot of players who can play multiple positions. As a group we have to take care of the basketball. We've got to find the open player and make shots when they're available. Defensively we have to be able to play our team style of defense and help each other. We want to get out, run and get some easy shots. I'm looking forward to this group being able to push the ball with their versatility."
- On Shaforia Kines: "She has to find her voice on this team because she has the experience and has been through the battles. We had Genesis Perrymond being a voice last year. Now she has to be that person and take that role on the court for us."
- On what Savannah Jones needs to improve upon for this year: "The biggest thing she needs to improve upon and we've seen her do it in practice, is her defense. She's matured on that end and has steadily improved. That way we can keep her on the floor in late game situations. She knows, understands and wants to be a part of it. She's proven it with her play in the preseason. Excited about her growth as a player and for her to continue to improve everyday"
- On Jayla Morrow: "She's a reluctant shooter. She makes the shots she takes. We need her to be a little more aggressive offensively. She wants to defend the best player on the court along the perimeter. It's great to have that lockdown mentality she has. It gives us versatility to play on and off the ball."
- On Alexis Sykes and Casey Ferguson: "We have a pair of good shooters in Alexis Sykes and Casey Ferguson, who were freshman last year. They've been having a really good preseason and I look forward to seeing their growth and continued development this season."
- On Devyn Lowe: "Devyn Lowe is coming off an injury from last season. We're trying to get her back into playing and getting used to being out on the floor on a daily basis. Really smart kid with a basketball IQ. Looking forward to seeing her improve."
- On the newcomers: "Two freshman round out the guards with Damaya Telemaque and Mahogany Vaught. Mahogany comes from a winning program in Olive Branch (Miss.). She's a really good on the ball defender, but needs to get stronger. Damaya is from Houston and is a great on the ball defender. She adds a different dimension to our team with her versatility. She can play all three positions and is a tough, hard-nosed defender with the ability to score the basketball."

Shaforia Kines
- On the guards: "I believe our guards are very quick and aggressive. We compete against each other every day in practice and I know we're going to compete as a group on the court."
 - On what she needs to do as the lone returning starter: "I need to be a leader on the court. I need to continue to talk more on the court. My goal is to talk more on the court this year. If we're in bad situations or down, I need to bring my teammates up and don't get into a drought."
 - On what she's working to improve for this season: "I'm working on my shot. I didn't do well last year and I believe as a junior I should bring more to the team."
