FRIDAY'S GAME
South Alabama has won four of its last five games since dropping two straight to Coastal Carolina and Texas State.
The Jaguars have scored nine goals in their previous five games after scoring just three in their previous eight.
Justice Stanford now has five shutouts on the season and 23 in her career. She is tied for fifth in Sun Belt history in career shutouts with Lara Campbell (Denver, 2009-11).
Stanford shared the shutout in the ULM game with Laurie Graves, who saw the first game action of her collegiate career.
Brenna McPartlan was voted the Sun Belt's Player of the Week on Tuesday after recording two goals and six points in two games last week. She is tied for fourth in goals per game (0.33), tied for sixth in assists per game (0.27), third in points per game (0.93) and tied for second in game-winning goals (4).
Four of McPartlan's five goals have come on set pieces.
Hannah Godfrey's goal vs. ULM gave her three on the season, which is a new career high. She has also set a new personal best with seven points.
USA is 56-9-4 in all games against Sun Belt teams since the start of the 2013 season.
Louisiana has lost four in a row, all via shutout, by a combined nine goals.
Three of the Ragin' Cajuns' four wins against South Alabama have come in Mobile. LA is 3-3-3 all-time in Mobile.
Louisiana is 10th in the Sun Belt in goals per game (0.50) and ninth in goals against average (1.98).
MOODIE'S QUOTES ON FRIDAY'S GAME
On the Louisiana game: "I'm feeling the same way I've felt all year. The girls have fought hard and there's been games where we've been the better team but haven't won, and there's been games where we've been awful and won. So on the back of these last two performances, what we saw was a team that controlled and dominated a Friday night performance, and then have to travel the next day in such a compact schedule with a lot of stress on the student-athletes and put on the performance we did, speaks volumes of the fight and character the team has. Going into this weekend, we're very confident and hope we get a couple of players back that have been out. As long as we can get fully fit, we'll be in good shape."
On peaking at the right time: "You always have to think that you need to peak at the end of the season. For us, there was that moment at the start of the season where games got cancelled and the schedule changed and it became difficult. To play at home and not get those results against Coastal Carolina and Texas State was heartbreaking, for no other reason than we thought we were the better team. We still have two more games to play against Louisiana and Troy, but I don't care who we play. I hope we make the tournament but I don't care who we play there because even the teams that are above us, we know we can compete and beat them. At the end of the day, what it comes down to is having that one individual step up and score goals. When we've needed her the most, Brenna has popped up with the goals, Hannah Godfrey is popping up with goals and it was nice to see Moa (Öhman) get a goal. Camryn Lyster can't stop getting on the scoresheet. That's been the hardest part for this team – where are the goals coming from? They're a group that's on a mission and they don't want to see the season finish."
On preparing for Louisiana: "We approach this game no differently. We put as much preparation on ULM as Florida State. We respect everybody, we know they're playing to get into the tournament, so I'm sure they're going to come here and strategically try to play for points. So for us, I think it's important to get it right tactically and show patience with our performance. It just takes one good moment with the players we've got, like Morgan Cross getting dragged down for a penalty at App State. That's the moment we need. We deserved that and deserved to win. If we're patient and don't make irrational decisions in a game, the chance will come, whether it's on a set piece or through the run of play; we have too many good players. Eventually we'll get a goal somewhere."
