Opening Kick
• South begins a stretch of five straight Sun Belt Conference games to end the regular season when rival Troy comes to Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
• This marks the only time this fall that the Jaguars will play back-to-back contests at home.
• First-year Jag head coach Steve Campbell and USA coordinators Kenny Edenfield and Greg Stewart were teammates on Troy's 1987 NCAA Division II national championship squad.
• Edenfield came to South after 10 years on the Trojan staff, the last eight of which he served as offensive coordinator.
• Jag assistant Harland Bower also has ties to Troy's program after working as a graduate assistant during the 2013 season.
• KD Edenfield, a graduate assistant on the USA staff, was a Trojan wide receiver from 2012-15 as well.
• The father of Jaguar S Nigel Lawrence, Illya, was a letterwinning linebacker at Troy from 1992-94.
South Alabama-Troy Series Notes
• Since the inception of the "Battle for The Belt" in 2015 the visiting team has earned the trophy every season.
• Neither school has won back-to-back in the series since the Jaguars accomplished the feat in 2014 and '15.
• In the three meetings in Mobile, only the most recent game in 2016 was decided by a single-digit margin.
• The announced attendance of 30,837 at that contest was the second-highest at a Jaguar home game since the program began play during the 2009 campaign.
• This is the third straight year — and fourth time in seven all-time meetings in the series — that the two teams will play on a weeknight.
Notes From The Last Troy Meeting
• The 19-8 final provided the lowest combined score by the two teams in the series, 13 points fewer than were recorded in a 27-13 South win in 2014.
• The Jaguars had 224 yards of total offense, their lowest total ever in a victory.
• Troy's 30 rushing yards tied for the sixth-lowest total ever recorded against South's defense and the third-fewest gain by an NCAA Division I opponent.
• The Jags were plus-three in takeaways after forcing four Trojan turnovers, the most for the Jags at that point in the season.
• The win was the 50th in the history of South's program.
Notes On Campbell's Coaching/Playing Career
• Campbell's 161-58 mark as a head coach includes going 33-15 over the last four years at Central Arkansas, where he guided the Bears to back-to-back NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoff appearances.
• He has led two programs to national championships — Delta (Miss.) State in 2000 at the NCAA Division II level and Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C. to the 2007 National Junior College Athletic Association crown.
• In 19 seasons no team coached by Campbell has finished below .500.
• Campbell has coached on the staffs of Pat Dye (Auburn graduate assistant, 1988-89) and Jackie Sherrill (Mississippi State assistant, 2003).
Mint(er) Condition
Tra Minter finished the Jaguars' win over Alabama State last time out with three punt returns for 88 yards — the second-highest total in the program's record books — including scoring on a 75-yard run back following a three-and-out by the Hornet offense to begin the second half, and after adding 73 yards running back a pair of kickoffs the junior was named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.  Not only was the touchdown return the longest in school history, it was the first run back for a score since Jeremé Jones' 54-yard effort in the 2010 season opener against Pikeville (Ky.).  Minter became just the second individual in program history to surpass 200 all-purpose yards in a game — Xavier Johnson accomplished the feat three times, the most recent in the 2016 finale against New Mexico State — as he also matched a season high with 61 yards on 12 carries to end up with a career-best 231, the fourth-highest total in the school's record books.
Sterrling Performance
S Sterrling Fisher tied a career-high first set at Oklahoma State the second week of the season with his six stops in the win over the Hornets, marking the first time in his career he has led the Jags in the category. Â The sophomore was credited with a tackle for loss for the third time this year, leaving him one assist shy of sharing the team lead in the category, while he has now recorded 21 tackles in seven contests after making 14 stops in 12 appearances last fall.
High Marks
Sophomore C Brian Ankerson earned an 87 percent overall grade to lead the Jaguar offensive line against ASU — the highest mark posted by a member of the unit this season — while Rowan Godwin received a season-best 83 percent grade as well.  Their effort contributed to South's offense gaining 302 yards while building a 28-7 advantage at the break en route to averaging 6.5 yards per snap in the contest.
Climb Continues
WR Kawaan Baker reached the end zone for the fifth time in seven outings in the Alabama State victory, making the sophomore the 10th individual in program history to score 10 or more touchdowns in a career. Â His next touchdown will be Baker's 10th of the season, which would make him just the sixth player since the program's inception in 2009 to record double figures in the category.
Milner Moves Into top 10
Senior Chason Milner chipped in on a sack late in the third quarter last time out, giving him a team-leading 3½ this fall after recording three in 27 outings over the last three years combined.  In addition to setting a new career high in the category, the defensive end moved into the top 10 all-time at South with the effort.
Can't Reach The Red Zone
The Hornets' only score of the contest last time out came on a 75-yard pass in the second quarter as the Jaguar defense surrendered a season-low 219 yards in the game. Â That included not allowing ASU to reach the red zone, the first time that has happened since Louisiana failed to cross the USA-20 on Dec. 7, 2013.
