CLOES, MARZOL PICK UP WINS TO ADVANCE IN QUALIFICATION SINGLES AT ITA ALL-AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

TULSA, Okla. – Juniors Loic Cloes and Clement Marzol each picked up a victory on Monday (Oct. 1) to advance to the second-round of qualification singles at the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.

First-Round Qualification Singles
- Marzol started the day with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Iowa's Kareem Allaf.
- Cloes closed out the day for South Alabama with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 triumph over Janik Opitz of Western Michigan.

THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Nick Brochu
On the day: "Today was a great day for the Jags, but it was not easy. It's great to see the guys stay focused and elevate their games even after losing the second set."

On Marzol: "Clement showed a lot of composure after not closing the match at 4-3 with triple break-point in the second set, and then up 5-3 serving for the match in the third. He stayed focused and eventually sealed the deal.

On Cloes: "Loic played a difficult player with a big serve. His style was very unorthodox and gave Loic no rhythm. Just like Clem, Loic should have won in two sets, but had to dig deep to win in three sets. Both Jags showed how mentally strong they were. It was a great confidence booster today."

UP NEXT
Cloes and Marzol will play second-round matches in qualification singles Tuesday (Oct. 2) morning. If they win their first match, they will play a third round match later in the afternoon to try and qualify for the main draw beginning Thursday (Oct. 4).
