South Alabama holds a 7-2 all-time lead over Texas State in a series that began in 2014 when the Bobcats joined the Sun Belt Conference. The Jaguars have won all three series against the Bobcats, including a three-game sweep in San Marcos, Texas, last season. USA has won five of the last six games in the series.
Last Time Out
USA fell to No. 25 Southern Miss 12-7 Tuesday at Stanky Field, which snapped a three-game home winning streak. The Golden Eagles pushed across 10 runs in through the first four innings to earn their second win over the Jaguars this season. Jaguar center fielder Travis Swaggerty tied a career high in hits, finishing 4-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored to lead USA at the plate.
On Texas State
The Bobcats enter the weekend on a five-game losing skid following a 10-2 loss at Baylor Tuesday in Waco, Texas. Troy swept Texas State in a three-game series in Troy, Ala., last weekend following a 2-0 Bobcat loss at Texas on April 11. Texas State leads the Sun Belt Conference in hits (433) entering the series, and ranks second in batting average (.290), runs scored (285), doubles (81), total bases (63) and stolen bases (66). The Bobcat pitching staff carries a 5.19 ERA into the weekend, which ranks ninth in the SBC, and is 10th in the league in strikeouts (284). Texas State enters the weekend in third place in the SBC West Division standings.

South Alabama enters the series ranked second nationally in walks (258), eighth in on-base percentage (.413) and sacrifice flies (25), ninth in runs per game (8.1), 10th in runs scored (340) and 19th in home runs (48).

Shortstop Drew LaBounty ranks fourth nationally in walks per game (1.06) and 11th in walks (36), while center fielder Travis Swaggerty ranks eighth in on-base percentage (.511).Â

Outfielder Travis Swaggerty enters the weekend as the Sun Belt Conference leader in batting average (.395) and on-base percentage (.511). Swaggerty ranks second in the league in slugging percentage (.612) and RBI (41), tied for second in stolen bases (16) and tied for third in runs scored (39), hits (58) and total bases (90).
BELL AMONG LEAGUE LEADERS
Right-handed pitcher Randy Bell enters Friday's start tied for fourth in the conference in strikeouts (66). Bell leads the league in strikeouts looking (28).
JAGS SWEEP SBC WEEKLY AWARDS
Senior right-hander Matt Peacock was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week and sophomore Brendan Donovan was named the SBC Player of the Week on Monday. Peacock went 1-0 with one save in two relief appearances last week. The right-hander struck out four and allowed two unearned runs on one hit in 2 1/3 innings to record his fifth save of the season in Tuesday's win against No. 11 Mississippi State. Peacock earned his first career win on Sunday at Arkansas State, and struck out a career-high five batters against one walk and allowed three hits in five scoreless innings. Donovan batted .429 (9-for-21) with a triple, two home runs, six RBI, six runs scored and one stolen base while posting a .480 on-base percentage and .810 slugging percentage in five games last week. Donovan hit safely in all five games, and recorded multiple hits in four of those contests. He drove in at least one run in four of five games, including a pair of multi-RBI performances.
