WOMEN’S TENNIS TO FACE THREE OPPONENTS THIS WEEK

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women's tennis team will host a match and go on the road for two others this week.

On Wednesday, the Jaguars will take on USC Upstate at 2 p.m. at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts before going to Central Florida on Friday and North Florida on Sunday. Both of those matches are set to begin at 11 a.m. CST and will have live stats available.

"It's another busy week for us," USA head coach Jaco Keyser said. "We're at home on Wednesday and I'm looking forward to getting another home match in, and we have two tough matches on the road that should be a pretty good test."

The Jags stopped a three-match skid last weekend, defeating Louisiana Tech 6-1 and Southern Miss 4-1. Senior Monica Mitta (Fairhope, Ala.) went 2-0 in both singles and doubles, and lost just one game total in both doubles victories with sophomore Alexandria Stiteler (Bradenton, Fla.).

"When you win, you feel good about it and it's always a lot more pleasant when you're on the practice courts when you're winning," Keyser said. "But even when we lost a couple of those matches, I actually thought we got better overall. I think in the long run, losing one or two in the middle of the season isn't going to hurt us, and will actually make us a better team."

Wednesday's opponent comes to Mobile when a 1-11 record and has lost six in a row. USA won the only previous meeting between the two schools in 2013.

Central Florida is 10-2 but fell 5-2 in its last match to Southern Methodist. The Knights have been especially strong at the top of their singles and doubles lineups, posting a 19-5 record at Nos. 1 and 2 in singles and 21-2 on courts 1 and 2 in doubles.

North Florida is 5-6 and has posted a 2-4 record in its last six matches prior to its doubleheader on Thursday.

"All of those Florida schools have good players and usually compete pretty well," Keyser stated. "Everyone is a tough match for us. If we play well, we can beat anyone, but if we don't play up to par, we could lose against anyone. Hopefully we'll be ready to go."
